A new law signed by President Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan requires Shiite women to ask their husband’s permission before leaving the home and forces them to have sexual intercourse.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay today urged the Afghan Government to rescind a new law, reportedly signed by President Hamid Karzai earlier this month, that she said would seriously undermine womens rights in Afghanistan and contravene the Afghanistan constitution as well as universal human rights standards.
