SHARI'A LAW COMES TO SOMALIA

BEHEADINGS, PUBLIC FLOGGINGS AND STONINGS OF WOMEN, HANGINGS FOR BLASPHEMY, ASPOSTASY & HOMOSEXUALITY, LIMB AMPUTATIONS FOR STEALING, HONOR KILLINGS, FORCED MARRIAGES WITH LITTLE GIRLS, AND MORE.

Sharif Ahmed, Somalia’s president, has approved a bill legislating the implementation of Islamic law in the country, a key demand from armed fighters for their co-operation with his government. Despite the move, Somalias opposition Islamic Party insists that Sharia can only be implemented if and when all foreign forces leave the country.

Why in the 21st Century, this sort of legal system is allowed anywhere is beyond belief. Great Britain now allows Shari’a Law for Muslim civil matters. How long until we see a public beheading in Traflagar Square?

Shari’a Law and Punishment

*Shari’a law prescribes brutal punishment often imposed by  religious police

*Public punishment is often mandatory

*Public hangings and stonings are commonplace

*Crimes of free thought are the most severely punished

*Leaving Islam can mean death

*Exercising your rights to freely express your opinion…can lead to the death sentence for blasphemy under the Sharia

*Women are unequal before the law, lack freedom of choice over marriage and travel, and lack economic independence

*Shari’a mandates severe punishment for sex outside marriage.. but allows a man to have unlimited sex with an unlimited number of slave girls and war captives

*In rape cases, the burden of proof is on the victim

*The testimonies of four independent, male, Muslim witnesses are needed to prove rape

*Unproved rape is fornication, punishable by stoning

*Shari’a is the only system of law which punishes the victim

*Permission of a male family member is needed:

– to obtain a passport or receive a bank loan

– to travel

– to marry

*Women lack of full citizenship rights, have unequal divorce laws, unequal rights of child custody, no protection from violence within the family

*Shari’a Law says that there can be no separation of religion and state since all institutions, including government, must be subservient to God’s law

*Shari’a Law says that no fully democratic state can be legitimate

*Shari’a Law says the highest authority in the state vested in the clerics

*Shari’a Law is in conflict with Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
