Only this time, there were security agents on board, ready, armed, and waiting. They returned fire on the Muslim pirates, enabling the ship to proceed on its way.
Pirates have attacked an American container ship for the second time this year. The crew from the Maersk Alabama exchanged gunfire with their attackers before fleeing. Pirates fired automatic weapons at the Maersk Alabama as it was making its way along one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, about 350 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia.
A security contingent on board returned fire and the American ship managed to escape without casualties.
The same ship was attacked off Somalia in April when pirates seized control and took the captain hostage. He was freed after US navy snipers killed three pirates and captured one. The latest incident coincides with the reported death of a North Korean captain whose tanker was seized off the Seychelles earlier this week.ABC NEWS
