UPDATE! BILD – Two dead in shooting at Frankfurt airport – a man from Kosovo (21) has opened fire, bus with U.S. soldiers attacked! Alleged perpetrator of the attack on the bus was shouting Islamist slogans. (“Allahu Akbar” I presume)
BBC — The driver of the bus and a US soldier were reportedly killed, while two others were seriously injured.
A 21-year-old suspect from Kosovo is said to have been arrested after the shooting in front of Terminal 2 at Europe’s second-biggest airport. Police have told German media it is not clear if it was a terrorist attack.
Police spokesman Jurgen Linker told Germany’s Die Welt newspaper that the incident seemed to have taken place inside the bus. US Army Europe has not yet issued a comment, but said it was looking into the incident.
The BBC’s Stephen Evans in Berlin says the airport is not far from Ramstein Air Base, the US Air Force’s headquarters in Europe.
Four Islamists were convicted in March last year in Germany for plotting to bomb targets including Ramstein Air Base.
NPR —The U.S. Army in Europe referred calls to the Air Force, but a spokeswoman said she could not immediately confirm that the casualties were airmen nor give any details of the incident. The bus had a U.S. government license place marked “AF” for Air Force.
Fuellhardt said he could not give out any information on the suspect, but authorities in Kosovo said he was a citizen of the tiny Balkan nation.
Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi said in an interview that German police have identified the suspect Arif Uka, a Kosovo citizen from the northern town of Mitrovica.
