Tyson’s Meat plants employ thousands of Somali Muslims. Finney County, Kansas Sheriff’s officers continue to investigate the death of a Tyson Fresh Meats plant worker who was stabbed in the neck Tuesday night at the company’s plant near Holcomb, but no information regarding the stabber is forthcoming. I wonder why?

HUTCH NEWS - Deputies discovered Cesar Muniz, 30, in the nurse’s station of the processing side of the plant with a wound to the side of his neck. Muniz was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, where he was pronounced dead.

Muniz and a 34-year-old co-worker had been working in the same area of the plant on the processing side. Witnesses said the two men bumped heads while working, and in doing so, Muniz was stabbed in the neck by the 34-year-old man who had a work knife in his hand, according to a news release from Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue. 

The two men were both wearing hard hats, and the 34-year-old man was filleting meat. Witness said the two men bumped heads accidentally while the 34-year-old still had his knife up, and that’s when the stabbing occurred. 

“Witnesses said it looked like to them that it was an accident … but you can’t always go off of how some things appear,” Bascue said. No arrest has been made, but deputies are treating the matter as a criminal one until foul play has been ruled out. 

“We’ll still continue to follow up with people who were there and who may know something,” he said. 

Bascue said an arrest will be made if investigators conclude that a crime occurred. He said the 34-year-old man’s name would be released if investigators “make a determination that points in a different direction” and the man is arrested.

“Right now we’re trying to determine if it was an accident or if it was something more than that,” Bascue said. 

I’m not sure which is more disturbing — that a major American company will be providing a paid, Muslim holiday, or the claim that 700 out of 1200 employees at a plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee are Muslims.
