Smoke billowed from the detention centre this morning after two fires were started about 9:00am in the compound where Indonesian boat crews were held. It is believed rubbish bins and mattresses were set alight. Smoke was visible from outside the centre and workers were moved out of some areas of the facility amid reports that rocks had been thrown.
Sources inside the centre have told the ABC the unrest was in the compound where Indonesians who have been taken into custody for illegal fishing and people smuggling are being held.
