FLORIDA: Retired NYPD police officer ordered to take down his commemorative 9/11 flag by his Homeowners’ Association

Richard Wentz, who lost many fellow NYPD officers and helped victims out of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, has been told he has just days to take down his flag or face possible legal action.

FOX NEWS ) (H/T RevereRidesAgain)  “That flag means the world to me. Other than my children, that flag means the world to me,” said Wentz.

A letter from the Fairways at Heron Bay association said the flag detracts from the aesthetic harmony of the surrounding properties. Wentz said he was confronted by Patricia Favata, president of the property’s board of directors, according to the station. No one was at Favata’s home when WPLG Local 10 tried to talk to her.

Wentz said he ran into Tower 1 and started pulling out people before the building collapsed. He said he lost 43 friends and colleagues that day. Wentz says he now has cancer, from breathing in all the particles during the cleanup of Ground Zero.

“I will not take that flag down. That flag will remain up. I don’t care how many fines they want to give me, how many notices they want to give me, I refuse to take that down,” Wentz told the station.

  1. That was the Human Rights for the countrys own people =( In the whole west world we have the same kind of things happend. Are muslims the only people that can say what ever they want and not getting punished for it at all ??? I am getting so tired of this making all of us to shut up and keep silent for those pigs. If it was for a real pig it would help me to understand but not for those muslims that is taking over our world, bit by bit. I hate it ,grrrr =(

  2. This is sad that your association has done this to you and shame on them and anyone who dares to make you take down this flag that has such significant meaning to you and all of us who suffered through 9/11. You have to wonder who the association is related to to even request this of you. I support you 125% as I was under the same situation in June, 2002, and I took it nationwide via USA Today News.

  3. Amazing. welcome to the State of Government-Sponsored Tryanny. Who would have thought it would be Florida to do this, with all those patriotic republican Cubans.

  4. Have you all noticed the people who want to run their respective associations are the most nerdy, awkward, antisocial, power-hungry little dweebs?

They masquerade behind a concern for property values and that kind of thing, but I think they have a sick little power fetish and just want to exercise some kind of authority and feel important.

Run afoul of these dorks and you’ll get a letter. Ooh, I swear! You’re going to get a LETTER! Then you’ll learn, mister!

They need to get a life. All they do is demonstrate they can’t get along with anyone except other dorkuses.

    • Are you married to Pamela Geller…never heard of either of you till I watched a documentary on TV today. My father was an old fashioned preacher and you guys sound just like him…as in a fanatic!

  5. That is why I won’t move into another home owners assoc. They are communists! They are as picky as a cotton grower and they are nothing more than a bunch of babies! they make up rules as they go along!! I was NOT allowed to put up a scripture sign only because it might offend someone! That is what they scriptures do, they offend and that is the problem!! They can have the H/O assoc!!
