[UPDATED] RICK SANTORUM on the Muslim problem in America

Not exactly on par with Newt Gingrich’s hardline positions, but a close second.

And here is some icing on the cake, although the far left wacko website it came from calls it “Rick Santorum’s Islamophobia Problem.”

Think Progress   Now, (notorious anti-Israel, Jew-hating ‘Jewish’) journalist Max Blumenthal unearthed a 2007 speech Santorum gave to a Washington conference at the invitation of David Horowitz. In the speech, Santorum outlined the “war” against “radical Islam”:

What must we do to win? We must educate, engage, evangelize anderadicate. …

The other thing we need to do is eradicate, and that’s the final thing. As I said, this is going to be a long war. There are going to be pluses and minuses, ups and downs. But we have to win this war to — fight this war to win this war.

Santorum insists that he’s “not suggesting that we have to go in there and blow them up.” But, later in the speech, he compares the “long war” to World War II, adding, “Americans don’t like war. They don’t like suffering and dying. No one does.”

Both in this speech and in other writings and remarks, Santorum often specifies that he’s speaking of “radical Islam.” But what does “radical Islam” mean to Santorum? In fact, the former senator often times conflates extremists with the entire Muslim faith at-large and, at other times, he states outright that radicals dominate Islam. In the 2007 D.C. speech, Santorum compared Muslim wars from hundreds of years ago to 9/11: “Does anybody know when the high-water mark of Islam was? September the 11th, 1683,” he said to gasps from the audience. (He’s right!)

As to what “losing” the war with “radical Islam” looks like, Santorum discussed Europe. “Europe is on the way to losing,” he said. “The most popular male name in Belgium — Mohammad. It’s the fifth most popular name in France among boys.” The other data point he cited was larger birthrates among “Islamic Europeans” as opposed to “Westernized Europeans.” Nowhere did he indicate a growing “radical” threat in Europe.

In October 2007 at his alma mater Penn State, Santorum gave a speech and failed to break out the radical strain from the faith at-large: “Islam, unlike Christianity, is an all-encompassing ideology. It is not just something you do on Sunday. … We (as Americans) don’t get that.”

In a January 2007 speech, Santorum suggested Islam at-large was responsible for religious freedom issues and put the onus Muslims to deal with these issues to end the “war”:

Until we have the kind of discussion and dialogue with Islam — that democracy and freedom of religion, along with religious pluralism, are essential for the stability of the world and our ability to cohabit in this world. Unless Islam is willing to make that conscious decision, then we are going to be at war for a long time.

If Santorum’s discourse sounds like some of the Islamophobia network outlined in CAP’sFear, Inc. report, that should be no surprise. Horowitz has repeatedly hosted Santorum for “Islamo-fascism Awareness Week” events and Geller and her associate Robert Spencer cite his work approvingly.

In a 2008 appearance at the Christians United For Israel confab, Santorum outflanked even Daniel Pipes. When Pipes mentioned that radicals only constituted about 10 to 15 percent of Muslims worldwide (which equals over 200 million), Santorum, before wondering whether Muslims are capable of making moral decisions at all, challenged him:

It’s not a small number. OK? It’s not a fringe. It’s a sizable group of people that hold these views. [Pipes' notion of 'moderate' Islam] is the exception, I would argue, of what traditional Islam is doing.

No decent American — or anyone across the globe — should oppose “eradicat(ing)” extremist ideologies like militant, “radical Islam.” But Santorum’s history of statements raises questions about just exactly what and who he’s targeting for eradication. (He’s talking about getting muslims out of OUR country by banning muslim immigration and deporting muslims with criminal records and terrorist affiliations)

  1. The problem with muslimes in America is just that – muslimes in America !
They need to be booted out of this Country and, for good measure, the current occupants in the W.H. need to be their one-way only guides.

  2. Rick Santorum and Joe Goldner are on the exact page when it comes to the Muslim problem. In fact Santorums team is helping the Joe Goldner For Congress campaign and has signed off on it. As you know a candidate that is running for a federal office can not endorse another federal candidate according to FEC rules and regulations. So this is the closest that a candidate can come with out officially endorsing another candidate.
So lets help both Rick Santorum and Joe Goldner win their races!
    Joe Goldner For Congress

  3. He might be a good person but he favors gun control. We all know who would love to disarm all Americans. It is another McCain moment but since all candidates have until June (if that is right) the real candidate – without baggage will appear.

  4. Rick has some good thoughts on Islam and their ideology, but not as forceful as Newt. Listen to Ron Paul…..crying like an old man….comparing jihad to the Okla bombing, Timothy Mc…. that is a far stretch for a man that wants to be president. If we don’t defeat Obama, then America will be in the worst shape in our history. I have a book on my shelf “None Dare Call It Treason” written about 30 years ago. The writer talks about a time such as this…when a man assumes the office of President—under the control of the super rich, call The New World Order of another name The Club of Rome. We the People need to wake up.

  5. Thanks for sharing this. I am a Santorum fan, but haven’t heard much specifically in regards to Islam, but what I particularly like about him is his strong moral compass. In a day when lying is not only acceptable in DC, it is expected, I trust this man to tell the American people the truth – and more of it than we are used to hearing in many years!

    Thanks!

  6. My two choices for the presidency were Cain and Santorum. I know Santorum can beat Hussein Obama if he’s careful not to make any major stumbles. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  7. I have to agree. The candidates whose views on islam I respect the most are Gingrich’s, Santorum’s, and Bachman’s. I also liked Cains, but he and Bachman are out of the race now.

  8. I wish Ron Paul would shut up – the guy is bloody annoying and stupid. Rick has it right and is acting in a diplomatic manner; this doesn’t mean he won’t come down on them hard though.

  9. Rick you are so right. just the thought it of it being applied in the USA is scary with in 10 years their wouldn’t be US citizens left. because we I fell would all be dead.

  10. Now how long have the People in America waited for somebody to say this?? – that was a Vote Winning Statement,,now Please follow it through for the sake of the FREE World, and start the ball rolling to get Rid of the “SCUM” called ILSLAM.

  11. Why was Ron Paul standing there throwing his hands up drawing attention from Santorum.
He should have waited his turn to speak. It was very disrespectful. He’d have a fit if someone did that to him.

  12. I like Rick as a better more consistent character to become the 45th president rather than any other candidate. West would be a great VP. BNI, what do you think?

  13. Anyone who pursues gun control is a traitor because they are attacking one of our rights. That being said, Santorum seems to be better than the current pool of candidates. I wish Congressman West was running. Now that is a candidate that I can get excited about.

  14. Fitzhugh, I could NEVER figure this out. If you have an ideal, let me know. After 9/11?
Why in the world would they allow Muslims to immigrate here? At least very exhaustive background checks should have been done!

  15. ron paul needs to lay down and go to sleep and retire, he looks like a evil gremlin. he would be even worse for this countrry than nobama. if that is even possible how people are even votoing for him is beyond me. he says so waht if israel goes away, so what if all the jews die. that is his foreign policy. a total retard who ought to have died decades ago

  16. Rick Santorum does know ISLAM has way more knowledge than the other candidates and has done things to stop it in the SENATE..NEWT helped the Congressional Muslim Association get PRAYER SPACE on Capital Hill…he HELPED further ISLAM…You can also see RICKS PRO GUN info here…he is not ANTI GUN like someone here commented…www.ricksantorum.com

  17. I would vote for either Rick.
Now that McCain has endorsed Romney I wouldn’t vote for him if you held a gun to my head. 2 losers.
Newt is too old and big government, and Paul is a nut.

  18. I wonder if Ron Paul has a balanced view of the militant Muslims? He seems to only state the “exceptions” to the rule or to the general law problem. Running for President, Ron Paul would have to have some amount of awareness of an enemy. If not, then he is an idealist at all costs, even the destruction of innocent people.

Ron Paul’s comments about terrorism remind me of a Dracula movie I saw as a kid. The townsfolk came up the hillside at night with torches. They burned Dracula’s house with him in it. One of Dracula’s good neighbors, a doctor as I recall, runs inside the house and saves Dracula. They escape unseen from the mob. The doctor said to Dracula, “You wouldn’t believe the crazy things these folks said about you. They are out of their minds.”

    • BS, Ron Paul’s rabid Jew-hatred, Gay-hatred, and Black-hatred, not to mention his anti-American position on Iran and national security will bury him sooner rather than later. If I have to, I will personally publish as many of those hate newsletters I can find, especially the ones that the Nazi party in America supported. And David Duke.

  19. he is pussy footin ! won’t hold it against him yet , we need a tough son of a bitch to take on the son of another bitch.

  20. @Guest 1: Umm, where did Santorum vote for gun control? You’re obviously a Paul Bot or something using his talking points?

I’ve watched every single debate and Santorum has been spot on throughout. I just fell for the media hype and thought Santorum could never get over the hump. He was at 5% until just recently.

Santorum is a Conservatives-Conservaitve. I’m for the 2nd Amendment and know that Santorum is, too. His voting record show’s he is for relaxing the laws for legal gun owners. http://www.issues2000.org/Domestic/Rick_Santorum_Gun_Control.htm

Saying something ridiculous like “someone without baggage may surface” is idiotic. It’s between Mitt Romney, Gingrich, & Santorum. There are no other choices unless someone runs as an independent, which would likely only be someone as crazy as Paul.

  21. @Pam– Come on now, you can’t throw out unfounded information like that. That’s a bold-faced lie! I want Santorum over Gingrich, too. But, I don’t want to tear down any candidate without evidence. Gingrich did a anti-isalm movie with his wife: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/this_is_the_final_struggle_newt_gingrich_sells_a_m.php. So, PLEASE, quit lying about the man.

BNI: Unless people have reference, I wouldn’t even let them post. Paul Bots and Husseins lemmings are all over the web trying to bring down the Conservatives.

  22. Newts accomplishments in government dwarf anything his rivals have managed to achieve.
Is Newt guilty of so many missteps that the tremendous good he has done is outweighed? I
    don’t think so.

The 2012 election will be about a government careering toward financial ruin, and Gingrich is the candidate who can say he actually wrestled the federal budget into balance
.by comparison, Gov. Jon Huntsman, who the Editors of National Review say rates “serious consideration,” blew out Utah’s budget, raising government spending by a whopping 33 percent.
In an election about the imperative to repeal Obamacare, Gingrich is the candidate who helped defeat Hillarycare .

by comparison, Governor Romney ushered in a health-care system that became a model for Obamacare (and he stubbornly continues to insist that it was a great achievement — the main reason he can’t crack the 25 percent ceiling in most polls).

we are talking about clearing a seven-person field — eliminating strong conservatives,** preserving spots for two moderates before a single vote has been cast.

  23. @TrueGrit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D544cejJ3tM

Above is a link that was of interest to me.

I don’t have to tear anyone down – the record shows – and there is always a record. Also, everyone has an adversary and one can bet he will be waiting for you in due season. As a citizen – the true challenge in having the right to vote is to do your homework and weigh all things in the balance. Both parties have been infiltrated by the enemy – therefore, it behoves us as citizens to work harder, dig deeper and study longer. No man is to be blindly trusted – especially politicans. My choice of a candidate isn’t running.

Aside from that my family have bled and died for this country – so, I will speak. Thank you.

  24. While I like Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich has much better debating skills and the only candidate who can make Obama look really dumb. Gingrich has so much historical knowledge and experience, he outshines them all.

So, he has baggage, that was years ago. He’s older and much more mellow. He understands his mistakes and overcame them. Unfortunately, we can’t get everything we want in one candidate.

  25. Wow, Santorim has finnally come upon my radar screen and I really like what I see. I was kind of watching Dr. Paul but now I think I will go with Santorum as long as he is OK on gun owner’s rights which some seem to doubt. He has not as of yet filled out his NAGR presidential questionaire which would help alot in this matter if he would only do it. I will give my stipend to Santorum and not to Paul any longer.

  26. I believe that Obama is not eligible for office because he is not a “Natural Born Citizen” defined as children born of two U.S. citizens. As much as I love Rick he too is not
    a Natural Born Citizen

  27. This is one of my blog posts uttered & published subsequent to a Republican ‘debate’ in ’07.
    https://snooper.wordpress.com/2008/01/07/four-blind-fools/

    A few excerpts:

I’ll pick on Governor Romney first.

But we’re going to have to move our strategy from simply being a respond to military threat with military action to an effort that says we’re going to use our military and nonmilitary resources — nonmilitary resources — combined with other nations who are our friends to help move the world of Islam toward modernity and moderation.

The Governor exposes abject ignorance of Islam. As defined by its canon of scripture & tradition, Islam is intolerant, militant, violent & imperialistic. And irreformable.

The new mission for NATO and for other nations is to help provide the rule of law, education that’s not through madrassas, agricultural and economic policies that can be instilled in various Islamic countries, so the Muslims are able to reject the extreme and the terrorists.

We do need — I agree with what the mayor said — we need to add to our military by at least 100,000 troops. But the answer is to move now to a second phase, a phase of helping Muslims become so strong they can reject the extreme.

The reason — why did they kill Madam Bhutto? It has nothing to do with us. This has to do with a battle that is going on within the world of Islam, of radical, violent jihadists trying to bring down all moderate Islamic people and nations and replace them with a religious caliphate.

    Next, Congressman Paul.

Let me try to explain so you can understand this better.Try to visualize how we would react if they did that to us, if a country, say China, came that great distance across the ocean, and they say, “We want you to live like us. We want you to have our economic system. We want bases on your land. We want to protect our oil.”

Even if we do that with good intentions — even if the Chinese did that with good intentions, we would all be together and we’d be furious.

There’s always a radical element in almost all religions. They have to have an incentive. We give them that incentive. The question that you don’t — aren’t willing to ask is, why is it that they attack America? I mean, they don’t attack the Canadians. They don’t attack the Swiss. If it were merely because they wanted to go into Europe, why do they…

You paint all Islamics… … the same way, and this is a dangerous thing… What you’re doing is damaging our relationship by destroying our relationship with all Muslims. That’s what you’re doing.

    • Daj, well, this time, Romney at least had the good sense to hire Middle East advisor, Walid Phares, a Lebanese Christian, and prolific anti-Islam spokesman. He has been an advisor to the Pentagon, regular commentator on Muslim issues on FOX, and is well-respected. Perhaps the best endorsement of Walid is that CAIR demanded that Romney drop him.

  28. Ron Paul certainly made an ass of himself with that stupid , inane “tImothy McVeigh” argument. Certainly no intelligent person would vote for him.

  29. Rick S. came on my radar years ago with his work to shut down puppy mills particularly the most despicable pits of neglect and abuse run by the Amish in PA (and Ohio). At this point, I’ll vote for the candidate who has the best chance of beating the Occupier in Chief. and I don’t are if it’s Mr. Potatohead.

    • pip, back in the mid ’90′s most of us had never heard of sharia law or been thru 9/11. Back in 1993, when muslims were behind the first WTC center bombing, the media didn’t bother investigating the Islam connection. Kind of like what the media are doing today, under orders of POTUS

  30. I believe Gingrich is only forceful about islam because he is campaigning. I like Santorum, he has a clean voting record. He has served in the military. He has years of experience in congress and the senate and if you look at each and every candidates house his is the only one with a visible American flag displayed on it.

  31. Get the muslim slime that is covering America out because in 5years we will be under muslim rules and it will islam or die! That will be our choice ! After viewing thepicture of the 15 yr.old what her mother-in law and sister -in law did to her ,the basterd women are just as bad as the men! And how about that ugly muslim womanin B.C.Canada suing colgate over a tooth brushC She probably dosen’t know how to use a tooth brush from the looks of her ugly mouth.!!!

  32. Santorum: If he actually WILL follow through withese policies, he is the man. It still worries me, however, that he has not returned the questionaire regarding the Second Amendment to Gun Owners of America. Is this an oversight on his part, or is it intentional to give him “wiggle room” when protecting the Second Amendment from despots like Bloomberg and Rahmboy ?

As for Newt, we have historical proof that what he vehemently states “ain’t always so”. I think he should be voted “The most likely to win a waltzing contest”.

  33. I find all the candidates sounding like a politician from “Bugtussle”, with their “chicken in every pot” type verbage.
    Except one.
They all speak as if they are running for “voluntary dictator” in that they, and they alone will “straighten it out”. The one I find most sober in his verbage is Newt.

Real effective action in Washington involves leadership in building concensus. That takes someone with real Washington experience. As former Speaker of the House (and a phd for that matter), who has more experience or intelligence to bring to bear than Newt?

I’m not a partisan by any means, but based on “most qualified”, I see Newt as heads and shoulders above the rest. My cynical side sees the MSM against him as a positive. I believe they understand that with his credentials and intelligence, should he win the nomination, Obama would be in deep doo doo. A debate between the two would be both comical and sad at the same time.
More importantly, those American Allies, both foreign and domestic, would be greatly emboldened with new found confidence would result in America Bashing to fall out of fashion ( see ‘building concensus’ above). If Newt wins the office, I would expect a watershed moment in American history. I’m not usually so political, but I see this as a critical opportunity to place a real “straightshooter” in the White House.
To those who decry his personal life, I say “We are electing an American President, not a ‘National Marriage Counsellor’”. This election is probably the most important in it’s implications for the country and the Free World. Yet another reason for Saudi money to keep him at bay (through the MSM), therefore, yet another reason to vote Newt.
I will vote Newt, not as a Republican or Independent, but as a hopeful and concerned American.

  34. dajjal, but isn’ that exactly what the muslims are doing in western countries. They sneak uninvited in our back door and before you know it, they make unrealistic demands, expect us to integrate with them instead of the other way around, feed off our welfare system while our poor sleep in the streets, destroy our culture and beliefs, demand sharia law over the law of the land, Shove their evil religion in our face, bite the hand that feeds them and expect to take over. I know of no other immigrants who are so offensive and they are just not welcome.

  35. I like the positions of both Newt and Rick Santorum on the Islamist war against the rest of the world.. We need a hardline president when it comes to rooting out these monsters who are in every country awaiting the call from their imams. The mosques should be treated as enemy encampments, because we witnessed the cheeirng and dancing in fromt of the Brooklyn mosque on 9/11.. One of the many aims of the new president should be the protection of our own country and our own citizens, not the hyper-sensitive feelings of our enemies. thank you, Berengaria

  36. Quite true that no intelligent person would vote for Ron Paul but I know a few old dips***s who STILL are wearing Ron Paul campaign buttons; but as much of an anti-Semitic asswipe as Ron Paul is, he is still a better choice for President than the Asswipe-in-Chief currently occupying that office. God help us should it come down to a choice between Obummer and Paul!! And, I absolutely would support Rick Santorum, as he is one of very few that has the cojones to stand up and tell the asslifters in America, the CAIR bears, MB asswipes and all the muzzy pukes occupying space in OUR country, not only no, BUT HELL NO!!!

  37. As a European, I admit I actually liked Ron Paul some years ago. Since then, I have learned about his anti-Israel, anti-semitic views and I was horrified. Worse than BO, and that is saying something.!
I can’t really see much hope though in any of the candidates. They all have their pro’s and cons. Cain seemed good but they got rid of him nicely didn’t they? All the best US, you will need it..who knows, may be the right candidate will turn out to be the man who can beat BO and his billion $ machine. We always have hope if little else, after all…….(and there aint much over here in Europe folks…sorry !)

  38. Hannah, I would like to see these candidates and also CEOs of companies have their mistresses and girlfriends. It’s a hard thing for me to say as a Christian and is a contradiction. Even so, I have seen so many marriages destroyed over sex that I have concluded that it’s just the way man and woman exist besides their best intentions or religious beliefs. So it seems a lesser of two evils to have these affairs than ruin lives “totally.” Herman Cain just should have admitted to the affairs and gotten on with his running for president.

  39. @BNI: I have also heard Phares pull his punches, as most of them do who live by the pen and microphone. They can not afford to make full and direct revelation of the truth because they would be blackballed if they did.

George lied to me in ’64; the apple does not fall far from the tree and that apple is rotten to the core, pitching and marketing himself to obtain votes by appealing to AssWholes. My vote goes to Santorum. If Romney is nominated, my vote will probably go to Jesus Christ, it will not go to Romney under any circumstances.

Thanks for the update. At present, I have the TP site loading. I hope to be able to blog it effectively.

  40. You wont want to come to Australia if you dont agree with gun control. We arent allowed to have them. Problem is – every Muslim Criminal – and thats all of them – have guns, granades, rocket launchers and the makings for bombs.

We the Australian born and bred citizens, are not allowed to protect ourselves.

PLEASE, DONT GIVE UP YOUR GUNS. IT IS ALL YOU WILL HAVE AGAINST ISLAM.

Meanwhile, we have to make do with sling shots.

  41. NEWT, RICK Sounds like politicians are starting to wake up. Darn mohommedists are going to have the police state chasing them!

  42. I agree Bill, and also as a Christian. It was such a shame, but was it really true? Grates on me as I was at first horrified at the allegations. On the other hand, no one could be a worse womaniser than Clinton and he was voted in anyway after the revelations etc. Not that it was a positive thing- the world first started to laugh at the US after the Lewinsky scandal. I got this awful feeling back then..no longer was the US taken seriously, and look what happened? Their enemies became empowered !
There seems to be no-one to take on BO, God help us all !

  43. Well, it’s better I suppose, Hannah, that you can be flexible enough to hold an opinion that actually differs from how you really feel. It takes a bigger mind to do that in the face of people saying it’s hypocritical to be inconsistant.

  44. Don’t you stupid Americans and I mean all all Americans see the islam slime covering America???? And obummer has been planted here to see the final take over for islamization of America withe help of ohillary and all he has prometed to the whitehouse. Before this is all over it will be amosque all the senators and congress people are bought!
