RUSSIA: Muslim Chechnya embraces sharia and honor killings

Chechnya’s President, Ramzan Kadyrov, now is openly approving of families that kill female relatives who violate their sense of honor, as this Russian republic embraces a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam after decades of religious suppression under Soviet rule.

Washington Times  In the past five years, the bodies of dozens of young Chechen women have been found dumped in woods, abandoned in alleys and left along roads in the capital, Grozny, and neighboring villages.

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov publicly announced that the dead women had “loose morals” and were rightfully shot by male relatives. He went on to describe women as the property of their husbands, and said their main role is to bear children.

“If a woman runs around and if a man runs around with her, both of them should be killed,” said Mr. Kadyrov, who often has stated his goal of making Chechnya “more Islamic than the Islamists.”

In today’s Chechnya, alcohol is all but banned, Islamic dress codes are enforced and polygamous marriages are supported by the government.

Some observers say Mr. Kadyrov’s attempt to impose Islamic law violates the Russian Constitution, which guarantees equal rights for women and a separation of church and state.

“We are a traditional, conservative society, but the government has gone overboard,” said Lipkhan Bazaeva, head of the Women’s Dignity Center, a nongovernmental organization promoting women’s rights in Grozny. “They are declaring unacceptable limits on women — as an individual, she has no rights even if her husband beats her, despite Russian laws.”

Though observers agree that honor killings are on the rise in Chechnya, the issue remains largely taboo among locals — making official statistics hard to come by.

“You hear about these cases almost every day,” said a local human rights defender, who asked that her name not be used out of fear for her safety. “It is hard for me to investigate this topic, yet I worked on it with [human rights activist] Natasha [Estemirova] for a while. But, I can’t anymore. I am too scared now. I’ve almost given up, really.”

Estemirova, who angered Chechen authorities with reports of torture, abductions and extrajudicial killings, was found in the woods in 2009 in the neighboring region of Ingushetia with gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Her killer or killers have not been found.

Few dare to openly challenge Mr. Kadyrov’s rule. But activists say some young Muslim women do so surreptitiously, placing themselves in a constant tug of war between two value systems.

Isn’t this familiar looking Koranimal with Kadyrov from Dearbornistan? The Association for Threatened Peoples (APM) criticises the decision of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin to nominate the current Prime Minister of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov as transitional president of the Chechen Republic. For APM, Kadyrov “should be brought before an international court and not receive a governmental assignation.” According to research conducted by the human rights organisation, Kadyrov and his personal militia are directly responsible for a large number of homicides, rapes and kidnappings of Chechen civilians, among which, many children. Kadyrov has set up various illegal prisons in which whoever is suspected of belonging to Chechen liberation movements disappears and undergoes torture. Under the regime of Kadyrov the number of disappearance of relatives of combatants and presumed combatants has skyrocketed – thus reports the communiqué of the APM. H/T Sheikyermami

Milana, a ninth-grader in Grozny, wears thick eyeliner, dons tight miniskirts, smokes cigarettes and dates boys: all things a proper Muslim girl is forbidden to do in Chechnya. She said she has heard it from her father countless times: A Chechen girl who loses her virginity before marriage is a prostitute, and Allah will punish her.

In this small Chechen village, residents talk about the teenage girl who was killed in early February after she spent a night at her boyfriend’s house. The 16-year-old’s body was wrapped in a traditional rug and returned to her mother’s house. Her relatives are suspected of killing her in the name of family honor.

  1. At what point do some people just say to themselves “You know, I’m going to completely turn off my think box”?

  2. On the other hand, someone can expect they finish to kill all of their women and can’t reproduce anymore.

  3. Unlike that pig michele obama, I adore America! Blessed beyond words to have been born here. F*ck off obama’s, occupiers and other America-haters! Just f*ck off!!!!!

  4. Don’t the girls in the photo look despondent. You have to sympathise for the life they have ahead, for them.
Especially when there are nutters like the one holding the axe ready to murder on a whim, and looks like he’s revelling in it.

Although I do not condone what he did, Ratko Mladic is on trial for killing muslims, in what was a declared war.

These SOB’s kill for honour. And pleasure!

  5. Okay, Asslifters of Chechnya, tell us one more time just how much better off you are under the rule of a maniacal arselifter dictator than you were under Russian oppression!!…..Another fine example of Asslifter Logic!!

  6. Everybody remember the MANURE STREAM MEDIA tooting the regimes horn and saying “OH those poor Chehnynians ! The mean old Russians are sending their army against them just because they are filty ragheads and bomb innocent people”.

The Russians quit faqr too soon. Any muslim follower of islam is a cancer upon the earth.

    • AMEN!!!! In fact, Ramzan Kadïróv earlier was among the rebels fighting Russia – which tried in the earlier days of Pútjin to get him on their side if he would calm that province down. He may have done it to some extent relative to killing Russians, but he’s showing that at heart he’s just as much of a night-stricken soul as the other Chechen rebels ALL are as Moslems!!!!

Personally, I’d wish Russia to invade Chechnya regardless of worldwide opprobrium. Instead of letting the Chechens get away with things (and enough Russians – I read not long ago – are content with the thought of letting that “republic” leave). Moslems respect nothing but brute, naked FORCE!!!! [Not for nothing that they NEVER believe in permanent peace with "infidels", only temporary truces until they get reorganized and ready to break it on THEIR terms!!!]

  7. Remember a few years back when Russia was killing all those poooor mohommedist and the USA said stop. Guess who was right and who was wrong?

  8. People are surprised to learn that this is normative Islam, rather than an aberration caused by a ‘tiny minority’.

  9. The Soviets would have known what to do with these annoying Muslims, deport them to Siberia, the steppes, or other remote areas of Russia (which is actually what they did to the Chechens and other perennially rebellious muslim peoples). It is interesting to note the radicalization of Chechnya, Kadyrov is the opposite of his father (who was probably assasinated by foreign jihadis) who actually issued fatwas banning the headscarf. Chechens and other Caucasian peoples traditionally are very independent minded and adhered greatly to their own traditions, which are now going to wiped out by Islam.

  10. You fucked up muslims in Chechnya are sooo wrong. Isn’t this the same inbred bunch that attacked a school a year or two ago? God Bless Texas, these people are pig like in their actions, mass breeding and killing.

    • jimo, that was in 2005 I think when they attacked the school in Beslan, killing hundreds of children and adults and torturing many. Since then, they have been behind every terrorist attack in Russia, at least 3 or 4.

  11. Kadyrov is ruthless. I think Putin is being played and Kadyrov will win. As islam is and does, do you think Kadyrov has his eyes only on bringing pure Islam and pure unadulterated Sharia just to his puny little state? Islam is as it always will be – a predator and infidels had better be on guard 24,7. Yet we have blind men leading us.
