“TEL AVIV IS.“ A complaint leveled against the Guardian over Israel’s capital city was decided in favor of the British newspaper.
(And they wonder why newspapers are going out of business)
JTA In correcting a photo caption that had referred to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the newspaper wrote that “The caption on a photograph featuring passengers on a tram in Jerusalem observing a two-minute silence for Yom HaShoah, a day of remembrance for the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust, wrongly referred to the city as the Israeli capital. The Guardian style guide states: ‘Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel; Tel Aviv is.’ “
The watchdog group HonestReporting submitted an official complaint with the United Kingdom Press Complaints Commission saying that Israel has identified its capital as Jerusalem.
In its decision issued Sunday, the Press Complaints Commission said that “While it is correct to say that Israel classes Jerusalem as her capital city, this is not recognized by many countries and those nations enjoying diplomatic relations with Israel have their embassies in Tel Aviv. As such, the Commission was of the view that the newspaper was entitled to refer to Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel. There was no breach of the Code in this instance.”
Clause 1 of the commission’s official code states that newspapers “must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information,” and the terms of Clause 1(ii) state that “a significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion once recognized must be corrected promptly and with due prominence.”
“We believe that this flawed ruling has the potential to further delegitimize Jerusalem’s status as Israel’s capital, giving the British media a carte blanche to follow The Guardian’s lead,” HonestReporting said in a statement on its website.

Jeusalem was, and is, the capitol of Israel. The media is always biased in regard to anything about Israel, they should be ashamed of themselves. But who believes anything that comes from media sources anyway. God Bless Israel, now and always.
Don’t you mean the Guardian pamphlet???
(And they wonder why newspapers are going out of business) B’ GOOD ONE!!!!
How stupid, a newspaper in England dictating to another country, telling them where their Capitol City should be. Most retarded.
Hass, our own State Dept no longer recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. They say it is a “disputed” area now.
We can thank the Muslim-Communist TRAITOR Obama for that – until then, for a few decades, Jerusalem was recognised by the USA as the undisputed capital of Israel, period!!!
Didn’t know that…
jerusalem is over 3000 years old.
it was never the capital of any other nation or regional authority – not under the arabs or ottoman empire or the greeks or romans.
jerusalem was divided for only 18 years out of its 3000+ years.
it is not mentioned in the korn even once.
the so-called al akso mosque in jerusalem is not the one mentioned in the koran as it was built long after mohammed’s death – and only dubbed “al aksa” by ottoman royalty after arabs forbade them from entering arabia for pilgrimmage.
dividing it again and giving half to arabs would be historically, legally, and morally wrong.
In fact, since you bring the fact that it was never the capital of any other nation or regional authority (at least not since David took it from the Jebusites oh so long ago), even the Romans based the capital of the province of Iudaea at Caesarea Philippi; which was also where King Herod Antipas had his capital.
Those Israelis are so dumb…. they don’t even know where their own capital is!
Dumb, dumb, dumb!
(Oooops!)
Long before Israel was known as the startup nation, skilled and visionary men were already putting it on course as the next Silicon Valley.

“Eretz Israel” refers to the Land, The People, and the Covenant”
That’s all there is to it.
Shalom,
Mikael
If the Israeli Gov says Jerusalem is the capital of Israel that’s all that counts.
JERUSALEM IS THE CAPITAL OF ISRAEL. AMEN
Once the Soviets decided that it was impolitic to support Israel (which from the outset cast its lot with the West), THAT’S when the left started its openly anti-Israel campaign.
Initially, Stáljin was not unsympathetic to the concept of Israel as he wanted ALL Soviet Jews to either be driven out or exterminated!! In fact, the “Doctor’s Plot” was meant to be the forerunner of a massive anti-Jewish pogrom that was however forestalled by his death at the hands of his underlings.
[Bjérija, Mólotov, Mikoján, Kagánovich and Khrushchjóv are all joint-prime suspects in that counter-plot's organization, as the entire anti-Jewish mess was meant to cover THEIR disappearance under Stáljin's 'modus operandi': they however saw what he was out to do and so banded together to get rid of him...]
In any case, starting right with Stáljin’s last years, the USSR started to be openly anti-Israel; and that’s when the left started to do the same…
Of course, Beria, Molotov, Mikoyan, Kaganovich and Khrushchev HAD to act against Stalin *if any other than Beria were really involved*. IF they hadn’t, Konev, Rokossovsky, and Zhukhov MIGHT have. (Or not)
Mr. Dunlap:
I’d like to take a moment to clear up why one often uses ‘e’ in a name or word when ‘o’ or ‘jo’ should really be used when transliterating from Russian.
In the Russian alphabet, ‘je’ = E – whereas ‘jo’ = Ë (which letter follows E). However, one often abbreviates Ë as E with words or names that are expected to be readily known (it also has a fair bit to do with which part of a name or word is stressed – a critical part of the Russian language!!). This is a source of confusion with Westerners and is a reason why often mis-transliteration results.
My spelling, although unconventional, at least aims to show the proper pronunciation.
As to whether Kóñiev, Rokossóvskiy or Zhúkov would have taken any action: they were in eclipse at the time – Stáljin had persecuted those unfortunates before the war and afterwards again humiliated them or worse. Consequently, it would have been difficult for them to do much if anything.
Bjérija was the one who undertook the physical details of liquidating Stáljin beyond doubt; however, he almost certainly was NOT alone. Once Stáljin was gone, Khrushchjóv was more than glad to get Bjérija out of the way – again with the coöperation of the others.
Bullying the tiny country that happens to be the only democracy and is striving well in the arab world is fashionable, its always has been.
Those words are extremely offensive!
That is as offensive as saying Palestine is an islamic state or muslims’ land.
Jerusalem is for jews! but if they still want to say palestine exists, they should say muslim palestine is a myth.
Muslims’ palestine does not exist. True palestinians are not muslims (muslims are usurpers and invaders).
Guardian!!! Well excuse me. GOD say’s the capitol of Israel is JERUSALEM, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost say’s it is.
So does history.
Now I know first hand why Ephraim [England]lost its Covent of Power and wealth. They are to stupid to be able to retain it.
Jerusalem is the only city in the world where God has chosen to put His name. He promised that land and that city to ISRAEL.
“And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.” (1 kings 11:36)
Men might say what they will concerning Jerusalem, but the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Israel has already decreed what would take place concerning this city.
“The burden of the word of the LORD (YHVH) for Israel, saith the LORD (YHVH), which strecheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in ,pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” (Zechariah 12:1-3)
That tiny nation, about the size of New Jersey, and that city sure take up a lot of the worlds attention just as God said.
Like we used to say in the Navy, “Stand by for heavy rolls.” Ex tin can sailor!
Reason news outlets are going out of business is because people are wising up. New crop of citizen reporters and investigative journalists are having to do the job that media outlets refuse to do and are covering up stories that they are not reporting.
When the British ambassador to Israel presents his diplomatic credentials to the President of Israel, the Briton has no alternative but to go up to Jerusalem to the President’s official residence.
When the Briton wants to be present at Knesset debates or High Court of Justice proceedings, he must ascend to Jerusalem.
When he wants to hold face to face talks with many of Israel’s Ministers, he must go up to Jerusalem.
Any country that does not “recognise” Jerusalem as its capital in these circumstances, is holding itself up to ridicule.
Hmmm…let’s see. Israel since its founding has always considered Jerusalem its capital. The Knesset was moved there from Tel Aviv in 1949 about a year after the State of Israel was founded. The Israeli Supreme Court sits in Jerusalem, not Tel Aviv. The Israeli Cabinet also meets in Jerusalem. And all significant government functions take place in Jerusalem. The only exception is the IDF which has its major bases in Tel Aviv.
Let’s see, if you have all your major government functions in a city, that makes the city the capital of the country.
Jerusalem has always been the capital of Israel. The debate over the Old City notwithstanding, the area known as East Jerusalem was always the capital of Israel. The old city was captured in 1967 and was integrated into the city and made as part of the Israeli capital.
I guess the Guardian doesn’t know geography or history!
Correction on previous post. The area was West Jerusalem (not East) conquered in 1948 after the short lived Arab Israeli War. And that became the capital of Israel. In 1967 Israel capture the Old City and East Jerusalem and incorporated that as part of the capital.
” i guess the guardian doesn’t know geography or history!”, yes they do, it’s just they cater to the dumb and dumber kind of idiots who feel instead of think their way through a sentence or subject. Pretty easy really. go along to get along, is that a help to you, afterall, it’s once again fashionable to blame the jooooo’s for the plight of the idiots again.
The article state that many countries recognize Tel Aviv…
So that makes it so?
So if Europe recognizes New York as the capitol (the original) or Philadelphia (the next Capitol)that makes it so despite the citizens declare it to be Washington?
To say this is laughable is just too kind.
I expect this from the Muslims, but the Guardian? The guardian of WHAT? Obviously the Truth is not on the list of items to guard.
I have NO RESPECT for ISRAEL! First; The state of Israel was given to them by the English,Two; The land belongs to Palestine and the People of Palestine,Three: REMEMBER THE U.S.S. LIBERTY!! If you are to stupid or unfamiliar with the U.S.S. Liberty, look it up,read it,and see what OUR wonderful Gov’t and the wonderful Gov’t of Israel did to an AMERICAN Navy vessel in 1967, THEN tell me if you would say “god bless Israel” I say, FUCK’EM! let them fight their own war THEY STARTED!
