I doubt the TSA folks are really comfortable withy this. I remember going on El Al from Frankfurt about thirty six years ago. They had two booths sort the same size as voting booths. All of the adult men were professionaly frisked in one by a male El Al steward, the women and children were frisked by a female steward. The plane was parked on the far end of the field. We were taken there by bus. Two M 113 Armored Personal carriers and a squad of Hessian State Police (their HW patrol) in combat fatigues with rifles were deployed around the plane.
LK, I was amazed when I departed from Ben Gurion airport. They took my carryon bag and proceeded to disassemble everything in it – every mechanical part in the hair dryer, curling iron, alarm clock, radio, and they put it all back together in no time. And that was after the body check and answering about 50 questions while they rummaged thru my suitcase. Never felt so safe on an airplane since.
When I arrived at Ben Gurion from India, the plane parked way out on the tarmac (about 2AM) and buses came out and we were surrounded by the IDF with guns pointed.
One tactic the palestinians used in the 70′s was to romance some local girl (Brit, German, whatever) and then send her on a flight with a booby trapped tape recorder with a timed bomb.
