Problem with the “Arab Spring” was similar to the Russian Revolution. Like 1917 Russsia the “middle class” in these countries is a single digit phenomena. A small minority overthrew their government only to hand it to another set of dictators speaking in the voice of the great unwashed.
I served 21 years in the Army, Active and Reserve. My wife is a Filipina. These facts will help explain my feeings on this subject. In 1985 3 US Army soldiers were murdered in a Libyan bombing of a Disco in Berlin. In 1968 Libya started a muslim insurgency in the Philippines with seed money that continues today. At least 250,000 people have died as a result. m So understand m y reasons when I say that I thoroughly found the manner of Kdaffy’s death proper. My feeling is that the killing of the servicemebers by his givernment earned him a bulls eye on his back that had no expiration date. IMHO the job is still pending as long as any of his issue or theirs still live. About 50% complete at last count.

The best thing for the USA would have been to keep Libya split into two countries so we could pressure either side and keep Quadaffi penned in!
