STAR TRIBUNE St. Anthony City Council members on Tuesday rejected, in a 4 to 1 decision, plans to locate an Islamic center in the basement of the former Medtronic headquarters off Old Hwy. 8. The proposed Abu-Huraira Islamic Center had been on hold for months after some residents objected to the center and city leaders studied whether city zoning would support the facility.
About 150 people attended Tuesday’s council meeting, where Muslim proponents asked the council to approve the nearly 15,000-square-foot center, which would be used for worship and assembly by the congregation of about 200.
Close to a dozen St. Anthony residents asked the council to deny the proposal, which they argued would reduce tax revenues, an argument Mayor Jerry Faust denied. Others contended the center would attract increased traffic in the neighborhood and create problems for those living nearby.
Some who spoke against the center made disparaging comments about the Muslim faith, although Faust tried to discourage such remarks. “Islam is evil. There’s no other religion in the world that endorses violence,” said John Murlowski, before Faust cut him off.
Ali Garushi, a spokesman for the Islamic center, said Muslim leaders will convene in the coming days and will consider filing suit to challenge the council’s action. “It’s discrimination against Muslims,” Garushi said. “This is a dirty war they’ve been doing.”
Lori Saroya, executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the decision “sends a message they [St. Anthony leaders] don’t support freedom of religion and they don’t support individuals’ rights to build a place of worship.” (NO, only Islam is not supported)
She said her group plans to ask the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate, noting that the department has launched an investigation into 28 cases nationwide involving local denials of mosque construction applications.
“I think they [St. Anthony city officials] have to admit how this looks,” Saroya said. “Right when the community starts making noise in opposition to the center that’s when they took a step back. So I think it’s fair for the [Muslim] community to react this way and to think there’s something more going on than just land use issues.”
The four council members who voted against the Islamic center said the city has not discriminated against the Muslim group and that the project has always been about land use and zoning.
“I think in the end it will cost taxpayers,” said Roth, adding that he was “embarrassed” and “stunned” by the disparaging remarks some residents made about Islam during the meeting. (Get used to it)
Supporters of the center say they worked for months with city officials, who had originally told them the proposed use for the space was acceptable. In addition to St. Anthony, other proposed mosques and Islamic centers have met opposition in Plymouth, Bloomington and Willmar, Minn., but governments ultimately approved them, Saroya said.

Hello to you all……
I watched as events unfolded in your small village, a microcosm of the same difficulties the entire Western world is facing.
I was not the only one who was watching, so too were all your ancestors, those who have given the lives to the cause of freedom.
So too were all those men and women who elected you. So too were the brave people of Kansas and other states who have stopped Sharia Law in its tracks.
So too were millions and millions of your countrymen and millions of Canadians. So too were millions of souls across Europe.
So too were the watchful eyes of those children in the entire free world, yet to be born, who look to you for a world free of black-hearted totalitarian tyranny, islam, that comes wrapped in the robes of religious freedom.
And you were magnificent…..each and every one of you. The voters and your fellow countrymen, nay, the entire free world, placed a burden on your collective shoulders and you were brave and magnificent in your acquittal of that burden……..to each of you…….Bravo!!!!
Now, as expected, the terrorist front group CAIR will engage in its stock in trade, the terrorism of lawfare……and I ask you to grit your teeth, look them, each and every one, straight in the eye and without flinching…..point to the line in the sand you have drawn and dare them to cross it. Stay the course!!!!
In closing, it is the bravery of men and women like yourselves that will turn the tide of mindless 7th century dogma. It is the bravery of men and women like yourselves that tells islam that the hard won freedoms, rights, protections and privileges of the greatest republic in the history of Mankind are not for sale and are not to be twisted and abused to suit a political ideology that seeks to turn back the progress of humanity and civilization.

@51 seconds into the video, a man (George Kaszor) says, “you don’t live in this area, why are you looking in this area…” He’s more right than he even understands.
I’ll explain why what he said is very important. The main muslim community in MN started out in the Cedar / Riverside community. It’s our “Little Somalia.” Minnesota has the largest Somalian population in the US. What the Somalian muslim community has done in MN is to build community centers, and mosques in outside communities, then flock to that community, eventually taking it over.
I used to live in Northeast Mpls. It was a predominately Russian / Ukrainian Orthodox neighborhood. Over the years, the art community and even Mexican community started to move in and stake a little claim. It was still a very peaceful and serene neighborhood that had an “up north” small town appeal to it. They filmed parts of the movie “Grumpier Old Men” in Northeast Mpls.
Then, approx 10-12 yrs ago they built a beautiful (from the outside) looking Community Center on the 1700 block of 2nd St NE. I lived a half block away and watched it being built from the first brick, to grand opening. The place had to cost a good 5 million dollars to build. One day, I decided to wonder in and see that the community center had to offer. To my surprise (surprise back then, disgust today) I found the community center was built mainly for the Cedar / Riverside residents. They were busing them in, and there was no interest in supporting the local community who had built the town over the past century & a half.
Since that Community Center was built, there have been at least 10 subsidized apartment buildings built within a half mile radius. The new scene is broken down taxis parked everywhere, and Somalian mothers in full burkas pushing a stroller, while walking w/4-5 kids during the daytime.
I’m sure there are other people here who have witnessed such a phenomenon. Maybe, you did and didn’t tie the big picture together. This is how the isolationist islamic community takes over, and runs down cities that took decades of hard work to build.

The DOJ has no business sticking their noses into what this community does. And I think it is wrong that the DOJ is helping these people destroy America, and these garbage bagged women look like people from the night of the living dead are an insult to this community, do you really want to see that in your neighborhood?
