As someone who frequents these boards I will take a minute to explain why some of us appear to be on the same side but do not actively support the edl. And far from speaking from ignorance I spent 1 year on the edl forums and know of at least one person in real life that has attended some edl demos.
The reason I never joined is I was put of by the image of brawling hooligans (back in 09/10) the protests often turned violent. I was also put off by around 60% of the board members that openly joked about burning Muslims etc, and generally racist comments ( again I’m aware that now racist elements have either been kicked out or splintered off). But those things put me off. The only thing that turned my head lately was when tommy brought Abdul on stage, told that guy to put the nazi salute down etc. The message the edl leadership sends out is a good one, but still there are large groups within the edl that don’t seem to have got the memo.
Reasons for other people may be fear. Fear of losing your job, fear of losing your friends, fear for your family and home, fear for your life and even fear of losing your children. Another reason could be that most ordinary people don’t take to the streets lightly, most people want to go about there daily business without bother. Before the edl was formed those guys were all ordinary people going bout there business too, before rage took over. Another reason may be people still believe the state will protect us. But as the London riots showed this is not possible when law an order truly breaks down. The final point would be lies from the media and left. Granted I know there are racists within the edl. But I know for a fact there are alot that are not racist, and there are Jews, Sikhs, blacks, mixed races, Chinese, Thai and the occasional Pakistani or Turkish ex/cultural Muslim.
Now the amount of people who either sympathise or secretly support the edl is another matter. And I think this number would shock alot of people. For example a maximum of say 5,000 people attend an edl demo, but at one point had 100,000 likes on Facebook. Even I who does not wholly agree or support the edl, recognise they are a necessity and ATM the only resistance within the uk.
Based on all my observations I feel the alliance with British freedom was a very smart move. With the recent rejection of the bnp and it’s racist policies, the electorate finally have a real alternative to the bnp. For me that alternative was and always be ukip, but I would never rule out voting British freedom. Again the real test to see which way the public moods direction is really heading will be in British freedoms success or failure, and seen as it’s vicechairmen are also the founders of the edl, in essence it may be a vote on the edl too.
Only problem i have is the fact that the right is split conservative, ukip, bf. Just as in France the combined votes of the right would have won the election. But it seems the traditional conservatives of Europe appear to be more centrist these days, which in essence has lead to many different right leaning parties. Quite often on certain sticking points. For ukip it would be Europe and British freedom it would be Islam.

Hi. Well i believe everybody has a red line moment. For the people of Luton it was the insulting of the troops. For others it was the burning of the poppies, for others it was the epidemic of child predators of pakistani origin that have been exposed. For me my red line has yet to be crossed. I think for myself and many others that red line is fast approaching.
You musnt forget most of us aren’t gun toting texans. We are quiet polite people who que up and pay our taxes. And those of us born in the 1980s-1990s have grown up in multicultural Britain. We have systematically been taught what we can and cannot say from a young age. We have had pc drilled into our heads. I think its the fact it’s been like this that the edl began in England and is so prevalent in England unlike Europe. In Europe they have a more open atmosphere on such things and most importantly have had political representation for some time.
For those of us that don’t want to hit the streets shouting and having skirmishes, for those that want to remain in a peaceful society, political representation is important. If we had it, the edl would not exist. The fact that so Many of us now openly discuss Islam etc and the fact that it’s talked about on tv, is a milestone in itself.
Vince, just so you know, political correctness will get you banned here. This is one place you can say what you think and not get bashed for it…as long as you aren’t a leftie or a muslim sympathizer or an Israel/Jew-hater.

Just a few points here. The British National Party is the ONLY actual political party that represents the BRITISH people. We are anti muslim, anti EUSSR, anti immigration. UKIP ( UK Independence Party ) is a made up political party set up to hive off nationalist voters ( mainly BNP ). They are PRO EU. Worse still was the fact that both were already in prison for other offences and the 3 year sentences were to run concurrently. ie in effect, no sentence at all.

Well keep the boys OUT of the pubs first, they don’t look as if they believe in anything – except rioting.
Then get many more families involved, mums daughters with banners etc, THEY cannot be made to look like football hooligans, also pensioners, disabled, Salvation Army, Church groups {if they support Christianity} etc.
Lastly, I’ve been on a few marches and while shouting made ME feel good and committed, it drove other people away as we passed.
