Poor Mama Bear is obviously distraught after her three cubs climb into a dumpster but can’t get out. Watch Goldielocks come to the rescue.
Speaking of bears, 60-year-old Canadian, Mark Dumas, plays and swims with one of the most dangerous predators on earth, an 800-lb Polar Bear.

I like the intelligent rescue of the three bear cubs. Not so sure about swimming with potentially dangerous animals. Just swimming the claws could accidentally tear open the man’s body. There is obviously a relationship with the killer whales, the polar bears, the lions and so on with their trainers. Yet, every so often, sometimes too often, we hear of the trainers being mauled and killed because the wild animals are doing what comes natural and that is too be wild at heart regardless of the training. I do not think that we can fault an animal when a trainer is attacked. I am not sure that it makes perfect sense to take wild animals out of their natural habitat unless because of an injury, they are not able to successfully hunt in the wild and survive and must be looked after in a shelter. Will the well trained polar bear ever have a normal life of being a parent, raising cubs and so on? BNI, none of the above is a criticism just some observation from a person who loves animals both domesticated and wild at heart.
cat, I know what you mean, but the polar bear looks pretty happy to me. He’s not confined to a cage or anything like that and doesn’t have to worry about where his next meal is coming from. Of course he could turn on the man, but I’m sure he knows that.
That could’ve ended very bad.
jfp, what do you mean? The mama bear might have attacked the woman?
Bears move very fast and can climb/lunge over objects.
When protecting their young they get aggressive.
Momma could have jumped into the bed of that truck faster than the driver could have reacted.
That young lady sure as hell didn’t stick around to smell the roses~!
Awesome Thinking,,, and I guess Momma Bear knew it too~!
Now THAT’S REAL comic relief!!!!
The “Goldilocks” I can understand – the woman only pops the ladder into the dumping-crate and leaves, leaving the cubs to climb up and out (which they do with no effort). HOWEVER, the actual idea of a man SWIMMING and spending so much of his life with the polar bear, trusting the animal THAT MUCH!?!?!! THAT IS COURAGE (or foolhardiness) INDEED…
The thing is, most times people who own wild animals one day get attacked and then it’s fatal or serious maiming. Even in the case of protecting the owner like in the case of Roy, of Siegfried and Roy. His Tiger was likely trying to protect him from something he thought was strange in the audience and ended up doing real damage. It seems pretty cool to have this interaction, to us (primate mind), but I think keeping wild animals in captivity has a measure of cruelty in not allowing them to live their natural lives in their natural environment, hunting and doing things they are meant to do. All big animals like bears, tigers, orcas- need- is to feel a little bit threatened or have a bad day-from who knows what- and wham, dead man. I’m sure he knows this and doesn’t care. I probably wouldn’t either, since no one ever gets close to polar bears. As far as where ones next meal is coming from…well, slavery/captivity isnt any different just because you get fed (Food Stamps) and Free Health Care!
Sweet and beautiful story for once upon a time… Nice to see the love for animals…
What a nice break, Bonni. Both with happy endings. I can go to bed tonight with a smile on my face. Love all of the bears.
Barbara, finding these animal videos is pure joy.
Check this one out, a female lioness pretty much intervenes when a male attacks a human at a zoo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0r6f1vlXsI&feature=fvwrel
Also you might want to look at Kevin Richardson (S Africa) who is the Lion Whisperer, but even he says, he could get killed one day and has had some close calls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHIzXLYWsNM
Planet, wow!
That was an amazing film!
Stanley Unwin – Goldiloppers And The Three Bearloders
That was fucking funny!
love both videos saw the first one of the news and i betcha the Canadian man raised the polar bear from a cub. very dangerous. good respite fromt the insanity that calls itself the religion of peace HOORAY BEARS
For Folks here, to keep with the Theme of the Fight against Predators in our society, the video: Battle at Kruger is the all time Great. 67+ million people have watched this video, which tells the story of what can happen when the Herd just HAS ENOUGH, and retaliates.
This video has given many people hope, just to not lie down and Take IT. Many of you have likely seen it, but for anyone who has not:
Great vid Planet, routine behavior for bovines when with calves. Several dog walkers have been killed by cattle defending their calves over the last year in the UK. Dariy cows set about my little cat Binky who liked coming with me for walks, they didn’t take it to far though.
When she got tired, she would ride home on my shoulders, wrapped around my neck, and growling at everyone she saw like a tiny lion. Still miss her .
I was thinking that maybe the man had Agee’s claws dulled – or even cut. Also, might have pulled or sawed off the polar bear’s teeth – who knows? Of course, all that done ONLY if PB tranquilized!! The other aspect is that Agee hasn’t known or, apparently, interacted with any other polar bears – but what about having baby cubs? D’ya think she “fancied” Mark? Like, maybe thought he was the only other male on earth, so cast questions of species-specific selection aside… By now, of course, Agee’s probably past her “child-rearing” years OR he probably had her spayed/neutered/fixed!
I like both videos. That said I have to side with those saying this is fool hardy of the man to interact this way with the polar bear. I am not going to argue the polar bear is not happy. He has big space and seems to be well fed. He is cared for and seems to have a bond. But even a raised cub that is well fed has instincts. Lions, chimps, tigers bears, wolves, burmese pythons etc are accident waiting to happen. As stated we can’t blame an animal for following instincts. On animal planet there was a guy that got a baby hyena. Luckily it worked out in the end but the guy ended up turning the hyena over so it could have a big space (he realized he was getting over his head). But he still spent money for its care. He brings the hyena food, cleans up after it, and bathes it etc. It is easy to see the guy and the hyena have a bond. I have no problems with polar bears in captivity for breeding purposes (so they will not go extinct).
Even Kevin Richardson (lion whisperer) says, he does not handle wild animals he has not known since birth, in captivity. He has been bitten many times, trounced, and had very close calls. I suspect we shall one day hear of ‘polar bear guy’ getting a big bear bite because ‘bear’ just freaked out. Notice the Electric Fence and the guy runs over quickly when polar bear shows unusual interest in the camera crew. I suspect, like with most wild animals in captivity, this is going to end badly. Polar bears are the LEAST of all animals that should be kept in captivity. Next come Orcas, tigers, lions, black bears and elephants which HAVE been trained to do stupid human tricks for food, which Sucks and they often kill their trainers , then get killed or isolated for life. Tillicum the massive male Orca has killed 3 people already, yet he still has to perform for food.
Lolita -in the MIAMI Sea Aquarium has performed for 40 YEARS!, in a goddam shitty bathtub. Activists, including myself have been trying to free her. Her NW Pacific Family Pod is known from where she was captured, her mother , brothers and sisters are still alive in her pod, she was taken from the Puget Sound and her family is still there. Orcas have specific pod language in their families recognized by family members. Lotilta has worked for human tourists for 40 years, taken at 6 years old, but still knows her home language. Female orcas can live to 60-80 years in the wild , but mostly die at half that age in captivity.
Lolita can be successfully retired, but she is the cash cow of the failing Miami Seaquarium that refuses to release her, even when we offered $1 million dollars to buy her for release. SHE will Die there, after 40 years of captive service. A PRODUCT of Cruel Animal SLAVERY. Think TWICE before you thing Performing Animals are FUN.
Planet, check out this link: http://barenakedislam.com/2012/06/24/iran-to-increase-business-at-the-zoo-live-donkeys-are-fed-to-the-lions-every-thursday/
There are several stories/videos about Muslims and animals which you will find very disturbing.
Do one of those change org online petitions.
That polar bear looks like a giant playful dog. Yeah, he does look like a giant puppy playing around with his owner.
I can hear that Polar Bears momma now. “You’re a baaaaad bear ! You know you shouldn’t play with your food !”
Ahhhhh, Goldilocks, you stole my heart with that kindness, well done. Seems that dumpster needs a tamper proof latch so baby bear doesent get caught again.
Lovely shots of Brumas in the pool, I’m sure this chap will never loose his respect for this top preditor and allways watch for changes of mood. The main thing to watch for is painful teeth.
They will need checking regularly just like ours every 6 months. As long as the human is empathetic to the animals needs and nature, I’m sure things will be fine.
BNI: As you know, I work with wild birds.
Here is a wonderful video of an eagle owl taken slow motion at 1,000 frames a second. The bait is located at the top of the camera.
