In Afghanistan, under the Taliban, the favorite color of the burqa (not even niqab, even the eyes were not allowed to show) was blue — and no variety in color.
And even more liberal Islamic countries are moving away from fashion hijabs and colorful abayas and niqabs for solid neutrals such as black, white or gray, at the behest of conservative clerics. She might even get beaten and/or sexually assaulted in today’s Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya for wearing too colorful a niqab, hijab, and abaya, now that they have become far more conservative in these countries.
She is actually lucky to live in a non Muslim country, where Muslim women, modesty notwithstanding, can still try to be fashionable.

And evidence from reports from Islamic countries suggest it is very common. Even in Taliban country, and Saudi Arabia. By covering women up, you often make women more of an object than before. A veiled woman stands out. Her features are concealed. They becomes a target for even more attention. And in a Western country, it is even more pronounced, because most women in Western countries do not wear a veil. It’s a kind of reverse psychology. If you want to make someone desire something more, make it forbidden or tell them they can’t have it. That’s human nature, Islamic propoganda notwithstanding.
