Senate approves measure to prevent transfer of Islamic terrorist detainees to the U.S. mainland as Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) had proposed

The Senate has passed a measure that prevents terrorist detainees from being transferred to facilities on U.S. soil, a day after it was revealed a prominent Democrat had commissioned a federal report to identify U.S. locations that may be suitable for housing Guantanamo prisoners.

FOX News   (h/t Jim D) The measure, which was introduced by Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte, (R-NH), was approved by a vote of 54 to 41 late Thursday. Ayotte argued that the facilities at Guantanamo Bay are “singularly equipped” to handle terrorist prisoners, calling the prison “top-rate.”

“The administration may want to close Guantanamo, but the American people do not want foreign terrorists like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed brought to the United States,” Ayotte said.

The vote comes the day after Fox News revealed exclusively that longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., had commissioned the report and concluded the option to house Guantanamo prisoners in the U.S. is viable, despite congressional opposition to such a plan when the Obama administration proposed it.

“This report demonstrates that if the political will exists, we could finally close Guantanamo without imperiling our national security,” Feinstein said. “The GAO report makes clear that numerous prisons exist inside the United States — operated by both the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice—capable of holding the 166 detainees who remain at Guantanamo in an environment that meets the security requirements.”

In response to Ayotte, Feinstein, the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the United States not only can but has handled terrorist suspects, with 180 now languishing in super maximum prisons. She complained that the measure would erase the president’s flexibility. “I don’t think the right thing to do is to tie anyone’s hands,” she said.

Democratic Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, who had pushed for several of the provisions on terror suspects in last year’s defense bill, said Ayotte’s measure was “unwise in terms of our national security.” He also warned that the provision was certain to draw a presidential veto.

In fact, the administration, in threatening to veto the bill, strongly objected to a provision restricting the president’s authority to transfer terror suspects from Guantanamo to foreign countries. The provision is in current law. The White House said the provisions were “misguided when they were enacted and should not be renewed.”

(Actually, the detainees are quite happy to remain at Guantanamo, what with the wonderful weather, all the halal food they can eat, sporting equipment, computers, cable TV, and more. The last time they were threatened with being moved to a cold, dark Illinois prison, they threatened to sue.)

Current law denies suspected terrorists, including U.S. citizens seized within the nation’s borders, the right to trial and subjects them to the possibility they would be held indefinitely. It reaffirms the post-Sept. 11 authorization for the use of military force that allows indefinite detention of enemy combatants.

Several Democrats vulnerable in the 2014 elections voted with Republicans on Ayotte’s measure.

  1. Shalom,
Actually, I am in full favor of transferring all of them to mainland US soil. So long as they are under US soil instead of on it. There is ample space to accomodate them in numerous cemetaries.
This will save billions of taxpayer dollars AND solve the problem.

  2. One main reason to keep out Gitmo terrorist is because we would have to re-name them under the Obama administration, we can not say terrorist so perhaps we can refer to them as Chaplains if it turns out Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood advisers in the White House figure out a way to reverse this decision, oh btw, there is a large number of Muslim Chaplains in our federal prisons already…

  3. These men are not ordinary prisoners accused of ordinary domestic crimes but P.O.W. and as such, can be held indefinitely or until the war is won. Period. Shut up, all you who believe otherwise. If you move your terrorists onto mainland soil, though, Canadians accused of terrorist crimes, including those confessed terrorists on parole in Canada, can just drive down to your place and join their brothers in some jihad watch celebration. And a little planning session at taxpayers expense.

  4. Feinstein is losing it. Alzheimers is creeping up on what used to be a perfectly good rotten, partisan,California style, entitlement creating brain(?).
Thanks to the numbnutz Californicate voters, she has been there far too long.

  5. I believe a monthly visit by Nancy Pelosi would serve America well, to have her speak to those poor terrorist or as she would refer to them as victims of religious bigotry, perhaps she can provide comfort Jane Fonda style.

  6. If they are moved, Mozzies will claim victory and will decide Allah is helping the Mozzies…they will then declare a new jihad and kill a lot of innocent people!

    Idiots…(the ones in Washington).

  7. Good post Petard,…showing your nice side,..:o)……I say drag them a slow death while tossing acid on them,..OR tie them to a tree, pour tuna juice all over them and toss in a pack of wild cats,…and kittens…;o).

  8. If 35% of the people polled in the Midwest thought this was a good idea…they live in Chicago, Cincinnati or St. Louis. The rest of us would rather just shoot them (what they were trying to do to us in the first place) and feed them to the sharks.

    • I thought that Cincinnati, being in Ohio, is NOT in the Midwest. Wouldn’t Kansas City or Minneapolis be better-qualified for the title?

Otherwise, thank goodness that the Senate has said “no” to transferring Moslem terrorist-detainees to the US mainland!! [Obama will likely do so anyway, given the dictator he's anyway becoming...] Those people ought to be quickly tried by court-martial (FORGET all those totalitarians who want to stretch things out with them!!!!) and then have them fed to some of the dogs and other animals they so hate and maltreat!!!

Beforehand, personally I’d favour their faces being doused with acid, followed with a powerful alkali (to neutralise the acid) prior to their then being fed to the animals – I wouldn’t want to waste a single penny upon even one bullet. The MOST I’d concede to the “do-gooder” good-for-nothings would be – after they’ve experienced the acid/alkali torture – to have them executed by guillotine. NB, that guillotine (or German “Fallbeil”, which uses a heavier blade to travel a shorter distance then the French version) would have to be made specially to ensure that the blade won’t stick or strike with insufficient weight – the blade needs to be attached to wheels gliding upon precision-engineered rails that are well-tested to ensure nothing will serve as a brake!!!
