If you thought Muslim ‘outrage’ over the two St. Paul police officers who wore Muslim headbags for Halloween was over…think again!

A group of Muslims and and a leftist or two concoct a convoluted theory as to why wearing a Muslim headbag (hijab) costume is R-A-C-I-S-T! (Even though Islam is not a race)

WHY THE HIJAB COSTUME IS ‘RACIST’ (What race is hijab?)

AfroRemix  Despite a media storm following the recent controversy involving a St. Paul police officer (see links below), there’s still a lot of nuance around why this behavior is offensive, why it matters, and where we go from here. The following thoughts seek to clarify those things and are shared on behalf of the individuals listed on the bottom of this post.

Why it’s Offensive (To Muslims, EVERYTHING is offensive)

Wearing culturally specific and revered expressions of identity as a costume is an offensive act and an expression of “white privilege.” (Oh, here we go, get whitey) These “costumes” perpetuate racial and cultural stereotypes (what ‘race’ is Islam?), reduce entire communities to a set of props and qualities (Muslims do that themselves), and result in cultural appropriation and misrepresentation. To suggest that such behavior “may be perceived as offensive” makes any reaction to these racist caricatures a question of sensitivity or feelings. (What race is Islam? And as we all know Muslim sensitivities are always more important than anyone else’s, because they keep telling us so)

We need to recognize that being upset about such costumes is not a reflection of a person’s hypersensitivity or lack of humor. Rather, it points to the very real power, consequences, and trauma that come with stereotypes and racism (What race is Islam?). As the Ohio University group Students Teaching About Racism (STAR) appropriately called out, “You wear the costume for one night, I wear the stigma for life.” (So, you are admitting that wearing a bag on your head is a stigma?)

For those who don’t see anything wrong with wearing culturally-themed Halloween costumes, please consider the following:

  • Would you wear this publicly without any reservations? (Yes!)

  • Are those who you are depicting laughing with you? (Who cares?)

  • What stereotypes are you perpetuating and what messages are you sending? (The accurate stereotype of the oppression of Muslim women by Muslim men)

People have the freedom to say and dress however they choose, but this freedom comes with responsibility. (No, in the leftist mind, “responsible” freedom is only a freedom with which they agree)

Why it Matters (but shouldn’t)

Women in the Somali community are well acquainted with comments like “nice costume” or “can I borrow your outfit for Halloween?” And it often comes from people who have deep hostilities toward us, and particularly against our identities as immigrants, black people, and Muslims. (No, it’s only about their Muslimness) So you can imagine the horror (Oh, please, spare us the hysterics) that ensued when an officer of the law took these ideas further and acted upon them. (Which he did on his own time, in his own home for a private party)

The officers did a good job with their costumes, don't cha think?

The officers did a good job with their Somali costumes, don’t cha think?

Mocking a culture is racist (Where’d you get that idea? Culture isn’t a race, it’s a culture. Islam isn’t a race, it’s a religion. Muslims who are white get mocked for wearing headbags, too) regardless of who the perpetrator is, but the consequences have deeper reverberations when it’s done by someone who is a public servant and maintains a position of power. (It was done in a private setting, not on the job)

In this case, what may have began as a tasteless joke actually raises a bias question and creates public safety issues. (Oh right, Halloween costumes are hazardous to Muslim safety. What next – Santa Claus?) As a result, community members may believe that there’s no point in reporting crimes since those tasked with protecting us may have a bias or question if officers take the concerns from the community seriously. (Good) This may also result in community members not cooperating with police when issues arise due to a perception that those who make up the institution don’t respect them or care about their needs. (Muslims don’t cooperate with law enforcement anyway, CAIR tells them not to)

This is what happens when ambassadors of police departments mock the religion and culture of people in our increasingly diverse community. But this doesn’t just impact Somalis – acts of racism also raise red flags with other communities of color and will undoubtedly fuel mistrust between law enforcement agencies and communities. (What race is Islam?)

What’s Next? (Who cares?)

While there must be some individual accountability in this situation, it’s also critical to address the institutional responsibility. Much of the media scrutiny has focused on officer Robert Buth and the St. Paul Police Department, but equal scrutiny must be placed on Target Corp. and its employees. (In other words, CAIR is going to sue Target because the cop in the headbag had a Target tag on his costume) The person who posted the photo and some of the individuals who wrote supportive comments on that post were employees at the Midway Target.

It’s also believed that the Halloween party in question involved several Target employees. Target must be willing to address the climate racism that exists among its employees. (What race is Islam? Target has no responsibility to police what employees do on their own time. We are not a sharia state yet) We are concerned for all the individuals of color who work at or frequent Target Midway, and hope that swift action is taken to ensure that the values of inclusivity and diversity that the corporation holds so dearly are honored in practice. (Diversity today means ethnic cleansing of white people)

Regarding SPPD, the department must use this opportunity to deepen its relationships in the Somali community, and increase its capacity to serve this community. (St. Paul Police should be targeting terrorists and paedophile sex gangs in the Somali Muslim community) We ultimately hope both institutions and others in the Twin Cities use this terrible event as an opportunity to learn. (Bite me, bitches)

But we don’t want this to become a one-time cultural competency training. We want to see meaningful change that addresses racial justice as part of ongoing professional development efforts. (What race is Islam?) Here are some examples of the types of efforts that ought to be considered if they aren’t already in practice: (The only policy employers should practice is to never hire any Muslims)

  • Institutions should take advantage of individual and organizational assessment tools like the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) (another communist manifesto?) to measure how each employee is doing in terms of their cross-cultural development. Tools like this are highly valuable in terms of identifying bias on an individual and organizational level. Results are confidential between an employee and the supervisor, and the process is meant to be instructive in addressing challenges and not meant to punish.

  • We hope institutions employ ongoing cultural competency efforts that don’t start or end with a clause in an employee handbook. This means continuous engagement on this topic and exposure to communities of color. (They already are exposed to people of color. It’s the Muslims (of all colors) who are the problem) These things must be institutionalized through policy and practice.

  • An example would be St. Paul police officers doing more foot patrols instead of driving through a neighborhood (thereby putting them at greater risk from Muslim gangs, rampant in Minnesota) or Target management ensuring that they are recruiting talent from diverse communities (They already hire from diverse communities, but Muslims shouldn’t be one of them) so that they don’t create situations where the organizational structure fails to include people of color in management roles. As outsiders, we can’t make any meaningful suggestions, but we hope these examples inspire creativity within these institutions.  We just know that change needs to happen. (It’s the Muslims who need to change. They are in OUR country by their choice. It’s called assimilate or get the hell out)

This is not an exhaustive or prescription list of tips, and we hope that all Minnesota institutions incorporate racial equity and justice into their work. (What race is Islam?) The fact that this type of behavior is happening in our community suggests that we have a serious problem. (The only problem in your community is too many Somali Muslims)

We started the twitter campaign to draw awareness to this particular issue while also initiating a broader discussion on race. We’ve adapted elements of STAR’s “We’re Not a Costume, We’re a Culture” campaign and tagline to start a discussion on twitter. We hope you will all join the conversation using the hashtag #CultureNOTCostume.

  1. If they don’t want to assimilate go live in a Muslim country. Their ideology is disgusting anf their women always look terrifed.

  2. I agree- idiots of all races and colors are duped into wearing head bags. I am white (and got abused for it btw) and wore one. The best day in my life was when I burned it.

  3. 1- The hijab or niqab is not required in the Koran. It started by Mohammad’s followers asked him to let HIS women (since he had too many of them) to wear hijab to be distinguished as ‘the prophets’s” women. Hand out.
2- This attire was used by many cultures before Islam. So, it is NOTIslamicc.
3- Recently, the hijab was forced on women for the mere purpose to force their satanic system on us. Like HALAL meat, sharia, the spread of mosques, the riots for every ‘un-sensetive’ issue..etc.
4- Muslims’ extreme ignorance of their own ‘religion’ make them easy target for the imams who are pursuing their own benefits.

    • The hijab is actually recommended in the koran. Women covering their bodies and hair is an age old practice. When we stopped being barbarians or when Adam and Eve ate the fruit – whatever you want to believe – WHEN we realised we wanted to cover our modesty – we started wearing clothes. Now every Christmas we dress our kids up as Mary and Joseph, put a lil blue headscarf on Mary, put her on the donkey and off she goes to Bethlehem. We depict this story every year, people cry watching their kids in nativities, then we hate on the Muslims that still wear scarf and we criticise them and twist our perceptions of Islam to ignore all the charity, all the dignity and all the GOOD Muslims in favour of bashing Muslims and Islam as a whole. (like there is complete clarity and perfection in ANY one culture/religion/society) We also ignore the fact that Bethlehem is being destroyed by war. What happened to power to the people, we are all equal or just respecting others and our own heritage.

    • halal is not evil. it says a man should catch his own prey, treat it well, use sharp tools so as minimize pain, relax the animal, talk to it, soothe it and offer pray at time of killing. It says do nmot kill a scared or stressed animal.Do not kill an animal in front of another. Go educate yourself. The cutting of throat is an effective, quick and painless method. The other options are dark, unnatural warehouses where thousands of chickens for example are electrocuted all in one big go, often the stun not working. But hey …ALL MUSLIMS ARE EVIL RIGHT !?!?!?!!? Get a grip of yourself, you are all hating fear-mongering idiots. Why dont you get so angry at poverty?! why don’t you get angry and the economical imbalance of the world, the cruelty of the reality orphans face each day, dying from malaria, starvation, slavery. Why dont you try and do something positive instead of perpetuating ‘religious debate’

      • casey, you are not only a baghead, you are stupid. Kosher is humane, halal is barbaric which is why Jews are not allowed to eat halal but muslims can eat Kosher. Educate yourself, idiot:

        Kosher vs. Halal:

Kosher – requires the animal be slaughtered quickly and humanely, strictly forbidding cruel slow methods like strangulation.

Halal – requires the animal be bled out in agony while sick people who get off watching that kind of thing have a “festival.”

Kosher – requires the blood be drained cleanly from the *carcass* of the humanely killed animal, removing toxins released from cells into the bloodstream at the moment of death from the meat.

Halal –leaves the meat *filled* with toxins released at the moment of death because the blood is removed while the animal is dying and therefore is not present in sufficient quantities to remove those last toxins.

Kosher – contains little to no cortisol or norepenepherine (two stress chemicals that are similar enough from mammal to mammal to cross species) because the animal to be killed is treated well before it is put down and is generally not frightened as it is put down (because in a truly kosher slaughter situation, animals cannot be slaughtered in a sequential fashion, as the waste of one could contaminate the next, so they are not exposed to the “scent of death” the way non-kosher culls are)

Halal – animals watch other animals die during the blood letting festival, smelling their fear and raising their own stress. These stress chemicals “marinate” the meat in hormones known to raise levels of aggression and violence in nearly all mammal species (including human).

Kosher – requires cooking the cleanly drained meat completely, cooking any remaining stress chemicals into oblivion.

Halal – allows for a surprising range of cooking methods, including even some “tar tar” dishes (raw or nearly raw), allowing for the spread of disease and chemicals and hormones that were not removed by the idiotic slow bloodletting practice and half-measure cooking.

Kosher – the spinal cord is sectioned thus cutting off pain to the brain. Therefore, no suffering or terror.

Halal – spinal cord left intact.

  4. I always thought that the niqab and burqa looked like the grim reaper. In fact, I often call them “death shrouds” because they quite resemble the shrouds they use when they bury their dead.

  5. I was at the capitol this last Monday and there were some Hijabis there doing the SEIU’s bidding… and one of them had a cell phone in their hijab like the above picture and I started to laugh out loud!!

  6. Every mask is a threat.

The Mozmask is a threat to women who DON’T wear one.

The Mozmask is a JAIL UNIFORM for Mohammed’s DOMESTIC ANIMALS.

They are SLAVE GIRLS and proud of it. STOCKHOLM SYNDROME!

  7. joy, soon grim reaper costumes, nazgul, dementor, ninja and anything else that looks like that hideous cloth coffin will be banned, urgk, moslems make people sick

  8. muslims are hanging around by a thin line they know it we know it ! with out piggie backing on race they got no hold on us in america , blacks are going to get tired of paken you muzzies smart ones already have . then bye bye time

  9. What nerve! The Godamned thought police! These individuals are nothing but totalitarian scum! I hate them profusely! They advocate nothing short of indoctrination of employees, and I better shut up before I say something rather rash, but yea, I can think of many unspeakable things I would like to do to these people, both muslim and leftist.

    • I’m muslim, what do you want to do to me because i chose to be Muslim, yes, i was not born muslim.

HYPOCRYT? Thought police? Except, you wish to do ‘unspeakable things’ to a muslim, just because you diusagree with what I INDEED THINK? How can you not see your own hypocrisy?

It is a shame your statement is so fuellked with hate. You sound so spiteful and angry. Has a muslim hurt you or your family????

  10. The officers who had shaved recently WERE beter looking than muslim women. But if they were showing their legs, they were not hairy enough.

  11. Right! I thought a race was a biologically unique group of people. Sooo, therefore muslimes are not a race and when they holler “racism” they’ve got it wrong. Also, beware Trader Joe’s because all their lamb comes from Australia and NZ. I called their customer service on this and they said at this point it isn’t halal BUT plans to have halal in future. That’s when I quit that store.

  12. And genital mutilation of girls,is a sign of respect?
The reason those ladies look so pained,is cause it still hurts to pee!

  13. What a load of crap. All crusading infidels should all dress up in these rags and bags and go out for halloween. BNI you did a great job of filling in the blanks in red to help the scum muslims to understand that islam is not a race and that all colours of idiots wear the bags of islam as a sign of superiority and ownership by the savage males of islam. Will the muslims ever get it that we hate the culture of islam and that it is not a racial hate but a hate of the atrocities, such as suicide bombings, sexual assault of child brides, female mutalations, honor killings and so on, done in the name of allah the lunartic moon god of islam. We hate the muslim, islamic culture of terror and chaos.

  14. I doubt that this is a surprise to any of you chronic whiners. Many of us don’t care a whit about you and/or your sensitivities. We would really prefer for you to leave. What good are you? Do you even work? Or, are you all welfare whores? My opinion, which I share as often as I can, is this: never hire a Muslim, never buy from a Muslim business, never utilize a Muslim’s services (like a doctor), if you see any headbags where you shop ask the store manager if any items are halal. If so try to shop elsewhere. Try to create an atmosphere where these people are so uncomfortable that (hopefully) they will leave. Deport illegals, enforce the law on those that break it. Stop being nice to these people. We can’t take the risks that go with it. Tom

  15. to me the ones in the bottom photo look like men dressed up as women. islam is not a religion it is an ideology that masquerades as a religion.

  16. After reading that poor me blathering bullshi’ite my energy is drained.

So for now all I can say is “Get the F*CK over yourselves.”

  17. Are These people serious ? NOBODY CARES. What he did in the privacy of his own home is his business. Get a life CAIR. America love it or leave it. We would prefer if you left.
