Sarin: The lethal fog of war
United Nations »
GENEVA | Sun May 5, 2013 6:13pm EDT
(Reuters) – U.N. human rights investigators have gathered testimony from casualties of Syria’s civil war and medical staff indicating that rebel forces have used the nerve agent sarin, one of the lead investigators said on Sunday.
The United Nations independent commission of inquiry on Syria has not yet seen evidence of government forces having used chemical weapons, which are banned under international law, said commission member Carla Del Ponte.
“Our investigators have been in neighboring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals and, according to their report of last week which I have seen, there are strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated,” Del Ponte said in an interview with Swiss-Italian television.
“This was use on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities,” she added, speaking in Italian.
Del Ponte, a former Swiss attorney-general who also served as prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, gave no details as to when or where sarin may have been used.
The Geneva-based inquiry into war crimes and other human rights violations is separate from an investigation of the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria instigated by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which has since stalled.
President Bashar al-Assad’s government and the rebels accuse each another of carrying out three chemical weapon attacks, one near Aleppo and another near Damascus, both in March, and another in Homs in December.
The civil war began with anti-government protests in March 2011. The conflict has now claimed an estimated 70,000 lives and forced 1.2 million Syrian refugees to flee.
The United States has said it has “varying degrees of confidence” that sarin has been used by Syria’s government on its people.
President Barack Obama last year declared that the use or deployment of chemical weapons by Assad would cross a “red line”.

But it doesn’t fit Obama’s agenda if his al-qaeda rebel pals do it.
May 10, 2013 @ 12:49 pm
Of course not.
Obama is a B.M.M.F who’s spreading himself for the Mohammedan agenda here and around the world.

BNI, Obama had president Assad ASSASSINATED on March 31, 2013…It is Obama with the WMD killing the Syrian people and at WAR with Israel…Presdient Assad was NOT the bad guy, Obama and his raghead jihadist are the bad guys! Obama’s Muslim jihadist in Syria slaughtering the innocent Syrian people for over a year…

Hannah, you have yet to provide proof of an allegation that I’ve not heard anywhere else.

Syria’s assad is a devil but the problem is that the muslim demon hood is an even worse devil. obama will support the al qeada rebels because he wants to support a muslim caliphate for the middle east. The middle east was more peaceful with mubarak, saddam, gadafi and the other monsters of islam than it is now with the monster demon hood in charge. We need to stay out of the middle east and let the muslims solve their own problems and continue to exterminate each other as they have been doing for over 1400 years.

Jay Carney is a puppet
May 6, 2013 @ 5:35 pm
Jay Carney, an Obama whore. Will lie and say anything to keep his salary and power. At least, the one he succeeded had enough integrity to quit when he couldn’t keep on lying anymore.
In my mind, they both have access to chemical weapons and the U.S. should stay out of Syria. Let them kill each other and let Israeli intelligence handle the chemical problem. Sadly however, Assad was protecting the religious minorities of which Alep is a good example. I still have a weak spot for Assad.

OT, but this is posted over on AtlasShrugs, in case anyone in the DC area is interested in attending:

The Sunni rebels wouldn’t get them from Shiite Iran, though Assad might.
May 6, 2013 @ 4:47 pm
Per1, Saddam Hussein shipped all of his WMD’s to Syria. We saw the truckloads going there before the Iraq war began. That’s why we never found them in Iraq. Stupid Bush should not have given them 6 mos warning.
May 6, 2013 @ 4:01 pm
If Carney says one thing…you can be sure the opposite is true…therefore…The U.N. is probably correct and it WAS the rebels who deployed the chemical weapons. The rebels, after all, are comprised of AL Qaeda…

Ann, since we are arming and funding the ‘rebels’ it’s obvious why BO wants to blame the Assad regime.
May 6, 2013 @ 4:49 pm
Frankly, if the Assad govenrment WERE using chemical weapons against the rebels, I wouldn’t shed tear one for them.

Mmmmmmm sounds like the same blind rhetoric that was heard before the Iraqi invasion. Iraq has weapons of mass destruction we must take them down. Lies, lies and more damned lies.
Obama like Cameron just want their muslim brotherhood stooges running the country, but like every other arabic country we have ‘aided’ it will turn into a radical hellhole !
May 6, 2013 @ 3:23 pm
No surprise to this black man here. Of course Obama and his regime are going to reject any report that shows the jihadist rebels are the ones using Chemical and Biological weapns. They WANT the jihadis to win and conquer all.
Of course, considering that the UN has lied so damn often, I can, on the other hand, see why one MIGHT be wary of any UN report.
In this case, however, they are likely telling the truth at the UN, for a change.
