More on the two girls attacked with acid in Zanzibar via the Jerusalem Post:
“According to the Jewish Chronicle, Gee’s mother, Nicky was previously featured in the Chronicle as a supporter of the Israel-based Hazon Yeshaya Soup Kitchens charity.”

Zanzibar acid attack injures two British women
The police described the attack as “an isolated incident,” refusing to link it to rising religious tension on the island between majority Muslims and its Christian population.
Two Christian leaders were killed early this year in separate attacks

I am sad to say, despite being a bit of an Anglophile when it comes to comedies, I’ve never heard of “Mrs. Brown’s Boys.” After watching this little gem I will have to look for it. Thanks, Bonni!
August 8, 2013 @ 12:30 pm
IC, I was just informed that they are Irish.
August 8, 2013 @ 8:26 am
LOL! Good thing it’s cold England, and not baking hot Texas! Chair potato would have been in his undies!

Oh-oh…..don’t think the Irish will like you calling them British, i’m half Irish and half Scottish and sometimes get called a “half-baked Irishman” from my mates in jest, the Irish don’t like being called British.
August 8, 2013 @ 12:21 pm
Oops, sorry. I’ll call it Irish humor.
August 8, 2013 @ 1:28 pm
Happy to know it’s Irish. Found it odd the upper stiff lip Brits could go this far in comedy.
August 8, 2013 @ 10:56 pm
It is actually made by RTE (RadioTelefisEirann), the Irish broadcasting company. It has a huge following here in NZ and the cast are due here sometime this year! The BBC are only fit for the likes of Graham Norton, Russel Brand and other PC leftie so called comedians, now very wealthy, trendy comics whose humour leaves a lot to be desired. Mostly they get off on putting other people down – just like the BBC.

Susan, please don’t tar all us Brits with the same brush, we like to think we have our dignity, us old uns that is, but we do also have a great sense of humour, The series of Mrs. Browns Boys is very popular in Britain and is, indeed, very funny. my American husband can’t wait to send the videos to his brother in the US. Look out for Only Fools and Horses, Open All Hours, last of the summer wine, and many more. All British humor at its best.
August 9, 2013 @ 2:13 pm
PG: Of course not. Like everywhere, easily-humoured people are to be found (except in islam). One series I loved and still miss is Keeping up Appearances. That Hyacinth was quite the number and how to not feel sorry for Richard.
Thanks for the suggested videos. Will look them up.
August 10, 2013 @ 1:58 am
Ahhh. Only Fools and Horses.
That takes me back. Love Dell Boy.
Your American BIL may want to invest in Roku and Netflix where he can stream into his home a plethora of British TV series (current and past ) and movies and some Irish too. It is addictive. But, on the other hand, it is always lovely to get a package from overseas filled with goodies.
