Six Muslims returning from the movies were accosted and assaulted by a group of Caucasian males for no known reason, according to the attackees, other than they were Muslims. (I dunno, maybe it’s the result of seeing things like this all over Canada?)
KPF In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6, at approximately 1:30 a.m. the victims were returning home to the downtown area from the new Empire Theatre located off of Division St near Highway 401 when the assailants approached them on Fraser St near Patrick St on bicycles.
The suspects, all approximated to be between 18-25 years of age, yelled out racial slurs (What ‘race’ is Islam?) and hate-based profanities at the group just before they attacked, including one who was holding a weapon. One victim was struck with the weapon and received minor injuries. The group fled in fear for their safety and Kingston Police were called. Uniform Patrol and Canine members attended. All of the victims were safely located but the suspects were no later in the area and could not be found.
One of the victims had the opportunity take a photograph from his cell phone during the attack that shows one of the suspects. While difficult to see the person’s face, police believe the suspects probably reside in the area of the attack, and from the clothing descriptors, date and time someone will recognize the male and contact the authorities. The clothing appears to be a white hooded sweatshirt with possibly lettering or a graphic on the chest, dark shorts, and white shoes.
