EGYPT: Liberal-left (secular) coalition announces it will support General Sisi if he decides to run for president
Egypt’s liberal-left coalition, the National Salvation Front (NSF), will support army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi if he runs in presidential elections, said Wafd Party head and NSF stalwart al-Sayed al-Badawy.
Egypt Independent In an interview with Sky News Arabia during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Badawy said: “[The NSF] would support Sisi because it is part of the Egyptian people and there is wide popular support behind him.”
“Neither America nor Europe, nor any other state, can change the situation in Egypt,” Badawy continued. “No one can impose anything on Egyptians any longer.”
Badawy claimed the National Salvation Front has played an important political role in its preparation of the future roadmap and fielding representatives in the Constituent Assembly drafting Egypt’s constitution. The front is also forming an electoral alliance to participate in upcoming parliamentary elections.
When the roadmap announced by Sisi comes to an end, by conducting parliamentary and presidential elections, security and stability will return to the Egyptian street, Badawy claimed. “There is terrorism in Egypt, but it is boxed in Sinai, and the army is combatting it forcefully.”
