UK: “We have kidnappings, abductions, assaults, sexual offenses. Anything that you can imagine could happen, does happen, in the name of honor”

Although this is predominantly an issue in the Muslim community, correct me if I’m wrong, but the video uses what appears to be a Hindu woman in the beginning as representative of the problem.

ABC  (h/t Colin W)  There are probably between 8,000 to 10,000 forced marriages or threats of forced marriages in the United Kingdom every year. Arranged marriages are a still a feature of Muslim communities, with parents agreeing that their children will marry, particularly first cousins. ‘Honor’ as they call it, is used to suppress women, to oppress women. So, if they misbehave in some way, or make their own choice, they have dishonored the family. For those girls who refuse their parent’s demands, the result is sometimes murder which is allowed under Islam and is known as ‘honor killing.’
