EGYPT’s Presidential front-runner and retired Field Marshall, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, pays a pre-Easter visit to the Coptic Christian pope
This was el-Sisi’s “first public appearance since he formally made his bid for the presidency.” Pope Tawadros II is a strong backer of el-Sisi, having supported his removal of Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
Breitbart El-Sisi’s “visit to the Pope’s seat of power at Saint Mark’s Cathedral” is viewed as “a tribute” to Egypt’s Christians. Ousted president Mohamed Morsi sent “a representative” instead of visiting the Cathedral himself.
A statement indicates e-Sisi told the Pope that Christians and Muslims will stand together going forward. El-Sisi is extremely popular and is “expected to win the coming May 26-27 presidential election.”
