EU collaborates with America’s big tech companies to censor and criminalize “unwanted speech”

Make no mistake, their definition of “unwanted speech” (which they have defined as “illegal online hate speech”) has nothing to do with incitement to violence but rather speech with which those on the Left (and Muslims) disagree.

Breitbart  Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have “signed up” to a new European Union (EU) Code of Conduct pledging to help censor and “criminalize” perceived “illegal online hate speech” and “promote independent (left wing) counter-narratives” that the EU favors. The Code has been branded “Orwellian” by Members of the European Parliament. See the details HERE

A press release from the Commission claims the new initiative has been set up “to respond to the challenge of ensuring that online platforms do not offer opportunities for illegal online hate speech to spread virally.” But the move has been blasted as authoritarian, Orwellian, and wrong-headed – even by left-leaning and liberal groups.

Shockingly, a number of left, liberal-leaning groups rode to the defence of free speech this morning after it was announced that the European Commission in partnership with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft, would be heavily policing the internet for “hate speech” and criminalizing those it accused of falling foul of their regulations.

“Hate speech laws are already too broad and ambiguous in much of Europe. This agreement fails to properly define what “illegal hate speech” is and does not provide sufficient safeguards for freedom of expression.”
