“I am here to recruit you to fight against Islamic bigotry. I don’t want you to be silent anymore. I want you to shout NO to Islamic ideology.”
HeatStreet I am now a ex-“moose” (a preferred term for ex-Muslims), sissy faggot who is ringing the warning bell. I am saddened but not surprised by the Orlando Massacre. I am not surprised because I know very well the hateful rhetoric that was behind it, (i.e., the toxic Islamic ideology).
Back in my native country, Pakistan—when I was not this fabulous—I was a scared little boy. I was raped, tortured and beaten by men like Omar Mateen and Farrokh Sekaleshfar because I was a homosexual and because Islam needed to be saved from dirty animals like me.
I was a citizen of the Islamic republic, a country whose citizens ask fervently for the implementation of Sharia—or Islamic law—that demands sodomites like me (and some of you) should be put to death “by stoning, by being thrown off a high point, or by toppling a dilapidated building.”
This made me loathe Islam—the bloodlust, the hatred, the hypocrisy. While in Pakistan, I renounced Islam but kept my mouth shut. I had to be silent or I would have been silenced. Killing me would have been a double treat for a Muslim jihadi. Not only that I was a sexual deviant but an apostate, who, according to Islam, deserves nothing but death.
The Quran tells its followers about the horrible fate of the people of Lot, the homosexuals from Sodom.
Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people. (7:81)
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals. (7:84)
Then the Quran tells its followers:
If two men among you are guilty of lewdness punish them both. If they repent and amend leave them alone; for Allah is Oft-returning Most Merciful. (4:16)
Islamic apologists will tell you that these injunctions are against homosexual rape. They will tell you that it is your bigoted misinterpretation of the Quranic text, taken out of context. You should tell them that it is not you who prescribe severe punishments for homosexuals, but precious Islamic scholars who know the Quran better than the apologists.
You would then show them Sharia injunctions against homosexuality. The only debate in Islam about homosexuality is that how a homosexual should be killed.
The companions of Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Ali thought that faggots should be burned to death. Ibn Abbas, Mohammad’s cousin, was of the opinion that they should be taken to the top of the tallest building in the city and dropped from there (imagine raining men from the Freedom Tower, a Islamic fantasy come true).
The apologists would still insist that these interpretations are fallacious to the nature of Quran, and you should just tell them, “I am presenting to you what is said in the Quran and what the staunchest believers of Islam prescribe to. If you believe these interpretations are wrong, don’t argue with me, argue with the so-called scholars who interpret Islam in this way. I am just showing you what Islam says about homosexuality.”
And if an apologist, like Barack Obama, tries to silence you by saying that calling out Islamic radicalism will achieve nothing, tell him that silence equals death. The first step to combatting a vicious ideology is to name it, to make it visible. If an ideology is not named, it cannot be critiqued. If it cannot be critiqued, it gains power. When it gains power, bloodshed happens. Tell an apologist my story.
I thought my lefty comrades would join me in fighting the hegemonic rule of Islamic patriarchy, but I was in for a disappointment.
I wanted to tell my story as a cautionary tale, but was shunned and silenced. I was told that I don’t understand the intricacies of Islam. I was told that I have inherited Islamophobia from my imperialist masters. I was told that I am Fox News. Islam was never at fault, they told me—it’s all about poverty, disenfranchisement, Western imperialism, a reaction against white cisgender colonialism, even global warming. But it was never about Islam.
While thousands of people all around the world were murdered because Islam inspired their murderers, it was never about Islam.
People have already tried to make the Orlando tragedy into an issue of gun control, toxic masculinity, and internalized homophobia of the murderer—they are already making this tragedy into anything but about the toxic ideology of Islam.
Your detractors will tell you that the majority of Muslims are good people. Yes! The majority of Muslims are good people because the majority of Muslims are not following Islam properly.
Don’t let them derail the conversation, don’t let them silence you. Educate yourself about Islam. Critique, criticize this ideology.
