This is so welcome!
Most animals are very intelligent but “speak” a different language. With most of us, unfortunately, it is a one-way street. The key is to learn their body language especially and also try to understand what the world looks like through their eyes.
I’m subscribed to two cockatoos on YouTube (Max and Gotcha). Their ability to understand humans is uncanny. Both can come back with answers that show actual logic and rational thinking. Their owners can actually have back and forth conversations with them. The words may be hard to understand (cockatoos are not known for their talking abilities) but they can read us more than we can read them. Research into parrots is showing that their intelligent is just below that of dolphins.
Gotcha wanted to go into the bathroom, and took off upstairs on his own to get there. It was occupied. Note his mostly appropriate responses:

I needed this BNI going to take a break and get some coffee. Sweden ranting at Potus for telling it like it is in Sweden. Some of the remarks of Twitter are off the wall. Gave a some asserbic comments back.

Some animals are so smart and so in tune with humans. My now deceased Standard Poodle alerted my daughter every time she relapsed (5 times) with Leukaemia even before it would show again in her bloods. She told the New Transplant Consultant who was an arrogant B and the last time when she told him after her 3rd Transplant “I have relapsed” he answered “Well I don’t think you have but if you really want another hole drilled in your hip (Bone Marrow aspirate) that’s your choice. This arrogant B did not bother to follow up the results for 8 weeks resulting in a big delay in treatment that I believe ended up costing her, her life. I know that they started testing with dogs for early cancer detection with excellent results but this was dropped….the reason…Cost and lack of interest by scientists?? What they really meant was the cost that was lost to Big Pharma.

I couldn’t do it, but that cat can!
February 19, 2017 @ 11:26 pm
if cats could speak or we learnt their language they know who runs the show and it is not the silly humans. My wife originally hated cats and when I came home with a cat that was dumped at the airport I walked into my house the cat looked around the family group decided the wife was not a cat lover walked over and jumped onto her lap,Her cat was king of the castle and has been ever since. We think we are smart but cats rule would make great judges of character. Thanks BNI and keep up the good work GRUMPY .

SK, I had the same experience at a friend’s house. They had a cat who did not want to be petted or even touched by anyone in the family, not the wife and kids, only by the husband. I never much liked cats so that was fine with me. But one day when we were having dinner at their home, the cat jumped up in my lap and remained there until we finished. And she did it every time we went there.
Needless to say, the family was stunned.
I figured the cat knew I wasn’t a cat-person, so she did it intentionally, giving herself a good laugh. After a while, I grew to like this cat and looked forward to my visits there. I’ve liked cats every since.

Cats are smart animals. I have a cat myself, and she is quite intelligent. I don’t know whether that in the video is a trick or whether that cat can actually know where the ball is under the cup, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the cat really can follow the ball. They are excellent trackers and do have both a keen sense of smell and hearing.
Anybody that says that animals don’t think, feel, or reason has never lived with an animal. They do all of these things. I have had a dog, when I was a teenager, and I have had several cats, and they all were quite intelligent and all had emotion.

My cat is called Gege. He is scared of most humans, ( runs and hides ), but will take on any and all dogs. He hid from me for a week after I got him. But now he is the sweets thing towards me.

Sandi, I had a mare once that was scared of men. If Mr BNI or my trainer went in her stall, she would try to hide in the corner. It took over a year to get her to begin to trust men. Some male must have been very cruel to her before I got her. It doesn’t take a lot, even one bad incident can create that kind of fear.

That’s one smart cat!

Cats are more observant and less easily deluded than humans. They also don’t have religion…

Smart cat. I have a boy cat named Roger Rabbit I took in a little more then a year ago. He looks a lot like your guy. I can’t believe anyone actually let him go or maybe kicked him out as he was limping when I took him in. Vet said leg was ok but he can’t stretch it out fully thus the limp. But he can run like hell when he sees another cat.lol. Also have two girl cats that are sisters. When I first took Roger in, he was chasing them all the time so I’d lock him in the bathroom for an hour each time. After he was neutered, he callmed down but now the one girl cat named Dinky chases Roger around.

CF, there is no love better than the love of a rescued animal.
February 19, 2017 @ 8:51 pm
True. I got a few puppies from the humane society, but the true rescue- an older dog, loved me the most. She appreciated every little thing I did for her. She was always at my side.
